Help Me Kick The Bottle

I have grow indoors using the biobizz line with a few additions. I am very happy with my results but as many before me have said I am getting a little tired of all the bottles and I know there are alternatives I can get the same or better results without seven+ bottles. One thing is do I prefer growing in 1-3 gallon pots, rarely 5 gallon but I prefer running a bunch of plants instead of a few large ones and I prefer to stay in soil and I prefer to stay organic.

More is not always better. Have you considered using just the grow, bloom, and fish mix, without all the extras? Maybe do a side-by-side trial, giving some plants everything and some plants just the core 2 or 3 things?

I just looked up that brand, and it annoys me that they don't put the NPK or any other numbers on the labels. That seems like a deceptive marketing strategy to make growers think they need a zillion different things, when just 2 or 3 or those bottles contain everything the plants actually need...

I have not officially tested just a few of the bottles. Great suggestion.

They do put the npk on the bottles, the labels peal open to reveal it. For the sake of anyone that stumbles on here in the future I'll update the original post with npk's later tonight.

Do you want to stay in soil? Are we aiming at organic, synthetic, or synthganic?

my end goal is saving money and time while maintaining a good quality. I’m running some coots mix soil and I’m digging it so far.

I grow outside in the ground, but I read the indoor stuff, too. About two or three years age there was a post by a grower that used her old VITIMIN PILLS for soil adminments.

Going just from memory, what she did was mix a basic homemade soil and mixed them in. She also made a tea from them.

I just thought that was an instering and novel way to go. Her pictures looked nice, probly as good as anyone elses. It would take a little math and a ballencing act but I'd try it on a couple plants.

Yeah maybe just make sure all your macro and micro nutrients are covered by whatever few bottles you use, and instead of all the additives just give a handful of good quality compost or worm castings now and then...

The real way to "kick the bottle" is with dry amendments instead of liquid. Check out the Gaia Green thread on here, it's just one or two dry fertilizer blends and compost, although you may have a hard time pulling it off on small containers (I think they recommend 5 gallons in that thread).

That is the method I've been using for several rounds now. I use KiS Organics and Espoma fertilizers, but they're all more or less the same stuff. I mix in a decent amount with the soil before planting, then just top-dress with the same dry ferts and compost or worm castings every few weeks, or as needed, and water.

Edit: here's the Gaia thread: https://www.rollitup.org/t/official-gaia-green-grow-method.1026893/
@swedsteven is absolutely crushing it in 5-gallon pots. The only thing I would add to the method described in the first post is to include a decent amount of compost in your initial mix, and a handful or two every time you top-dress.

First , call Alcoholic Anonymous - 12 step plan :bigjoint:

Go with dry fertilizer.

Here are a couple of easy 2-part fertilizer options.

Recipe 420 - Recharge ( Veg ) and Ultra Bloom ( bloom )
Available at most garden nurseries.

Or Roots organic Terp Tea ( Veg and bloom )
( myco loaded fertilizer ) powder like fertilizer.

Go with the simple 3 parts coots but try and get a high grade sphagnum compost with a solid ph around 7 if you wanna be carefree as a "beginner".
You ll need dry amendments, better go for a full line for the npk. Follow the instructions as instructed and you ll be kicking!! Alive too :bigjoint:

Coots mix works great for me, only tangle is what to do with afterwards (recycling). The Grow currently I used Root’s Organics soil Lush, with homemade worm castings, some bio char from buildasoil, and malted Barley. I top dressed with Buildasoil’s flower top dress and watered in every other week with their bloom booster.

The good thing with coot’s mix it’s a stable soil foundation and with that it’s easier to troubleshoot problems with the plant. It’s not water-only all the way through, but at least in Veg.

here’s the current grow in Lush/buildasoil

after a few years of growing, i had 10 or so different products from advanced nutes. i spaced out and continued to feed the flowering plants with vegging helper nutes. took awhile to figure out what i did wrong. i cut out 3/4s of the stuff.

How long will coots mix last you in a 5 gal?
A cycle, then I’ll empty all the pots out, remix and re-amend the soil, ready for the next run.
I use 7 and 10 gallon pots but 5’s work,
Topdress once with an inch layer of worm castings and some malted barley around flip.

If you’ve made a coots already and have all the dry amendments around, it’s one of the most cost effective mixes, as it requires little re-amending and the dry amendments last if stored well.

Right on! That’s good to hear. I’m already at 3 months and no sign of issues.

ive been making coots mix like crazy. I have 23 5 gals going and 120gal of coots mix set aside for whatever. I need to get some more barely but I’ve been having some good results with watering in LAB and a top dressing of bokashi.

Truly, all you need is NPK and micronutrients. Three, maybe 4 bottles, if you use decent soil, micronutrients, Si, won't be an issue. Or get a combo NPK fert, 1 bag.

Totally forgot about making this thread.. :bigjoint:

I appreciate everyone that has contributed their thoughts.

I did take pics of the bottles npk and will post later.

Bio-Bizz is basically that, 4 bottles during veg and 6 for flower, I likely could go down to 4 for flower

Veg:
Fish-Mix
Alg-a-mic
Acti-vera
Bio-Heaven

Bloom:
Bio-Grow
Bio-Bloom
Alg-a-mic
Acti-vera
Bio-Heaven
