Help me design my room

Hey guys...well here is the scenario. I have a storage area that is attached to the basement of my house. The room is insulated and has electrical outlets already wired. I don't have a measuring tape, but looking from the pics I would say it is about 9ft. tall, 7ft wide, and about 10ft long. I am not sure how much space I will actually be using, but that is what's available for the grow. This will be my first grow, and I will be using the knowledge that I have collected from this blessing of a site over the past few months.

I am thinking that growing in soil will be the easiest way to start. I dont really have to worry about the smell seeing as how it is vented to the outside, but will still purchase the neccesary items when the time comes.

My budget is around $600 in total including lights, and would love input on the best way to utilize the space. This will be a mostly personal grow (but personal for a daily smoker), with some being shared with my best friend. There is only one other person that will know about the place, and she lives here with me. I have read the SOG method, and I am wanting to know what you guys think will be the easiest/most forgiving system to start out with. I am going to be cleaning, and prepping the room all day. I will post pics at the end of the day as well, but it will be completely clean from top to bottom with everything that is in there now removed.

I think that I want to try 5 plants for the first grow. Thanks so much for the help guys.

keep it simple for your first grow, add the frills later.

you will need odor control even though you are venting outside unless you live in the country with nobody around. this stuff can smell.

for $600 i would go with a used 600 watt hps system which would give you enough left over money for ventilation and misc. you can find systems on ebay or craigslist. if you want a new light you may have to go with a 400 watt light.

you may need to air condition the room even with venting, at least during the summer. that's going to bust your budget.

When searching for a used system what are the best title's to use to get the best results for the search, and as far as air conditioning it, the room is actually quite cool in the summer and generally warm in the winter. I don't know if there are leaks into the room from the house, but it is definitely a nice bonus.
