Help!! I Thought I Could!

Alright, I have never grown before. I went in this thinking it was just a plant, and that a plant just goes into soil and will grow. I was very wrong! I had to use supplies from a local store. I had to get Miracle Grow Starting Soil. I also got some stuff that said like Plant Food. I also am using a crappy light. I have 2 F12 fluorescent lights, they're just not hooked up yet. I planted the seeds, and they just sprouted. I noticed recently that one of the sprouts is already a brownish color. I know this can't be good. The bigger one is starting to get a brown tint to it. What can I do to save these sprouts!! I want these plants to grow!!
P.S I can't get any Fox Farms soil or any Gro Bulbs. I'm broke and only have local stores! Any Suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

ouch, well do your pots have drainage? how close is the light to the soil? how much water are you giving them?

first what is your current light
second what is the NPK of the "plant food" it will say a percentage on the label somewhere---NPK=nitrogen phosphorus potassium
lastly the light you can get from lowes or home depot- usually called security lights, just ask and pay with cash. if you cant afford hids buy some cfls (the twirly bulbs that save money) get some in the 6500k range. you want at least a 40w cfl per plant

For some reason everytime somebody starts a grow for their first time they try to go big or go home. That isnt the case, your first grow should be simple, with a little water, light and soil plants will pretty much grow on their own. You dont have to worry about giving it certain kinds of food, just water, get the growing experience down first before you try experimenting. If I were you and i wanted to save the sprouts, I would lay off the plant food for now, Maybe the light is cooking the plant? lol I would of started my first grow off with a cfl grow. hope the babies live, good luck :bigjoint: keep us posted

I'm using a haggard ass light right now. I add somewhere around a cup in a half twice a day. Another sprout is coming up, and 2 of the 4 are still green. I am getting the fixture tomorrow to run the F12's off of. The pots they are in do have drainage, but I think in one of them it may be too much drainage. I will lay of the plant food. I think I underestimated the difficulty of this! The light and stuff, I think i can make it happen, we;;, with some help. Are 2 F12's enough light?

STOP USING THE PLANT FOOD! Your miracle grow should have enough nutrients in it already. It's like giving steroids to a 1 year old. Hook your lights up, water when needed, and be patient. Lights + Water + Air = Life

What are some lights i could get at like a lowes or a hardware store. No fixtures fit a 250 watt high pressure sodium light. The only thing that fits the ballast is like a street light looking thing. I just need some moderate indoor lights i can get from like a normal store. Any suggestions? :bigjoint:

If ur looking to save money look for a thrift store somewhere near ur house, they almost always have some sort of bathroom vanity, they work perfectly, just wire them up to a normal cord and ur in business, as far as lights go, u can do what i do which i dont recommend cause it is technically illegal but then again so is growing, i ususally buy the best cfl's i can get then switch them with cheap dollar store cfl's... then return the cheap lights in the boxes of the good cfl's... i ended up getting 90$ worth of 42 watt 2700 luman lights for 13 dollars

still though... i would think very shitty of myself if i did that. but for 42 watt cfl's it would be tempting as i have none;-)

i've grown my babies for quite a long time under 4 T5 fluorescents. After incandescents (which sucks), those are the cheapest way to keep the babies alive and growing. Try and meet the growers community in your area (whenever you ask someone for seeds you can be sure he grew one way or another and he knows people who knows people (hopefully not LEO as you call them).
I've got my 250W combo (both MH and HPS) from a friend of a friend who used to grew a few years before he got married as a present....
From my point of view your little babies problem is over fertilising. It's enought to just google "weed" and you'll surely find a post where it sais DON'T fertisilise in the first 2 weeks if you are soil growing.
With one thing you were right. MJ is really a weed. Treat it as you would treat a tulip in a pot of soil and it will mature (we're not talking yet of yeld). And you would never OVER-EVERYTHING a tulip, but you would not forget about it either. Our In-Excess-Love for weed is their main threat:))
Good luck with them and keep us in speed:)

you need to get cfl flourescents. you over watered your sprout and incandescent lights don't do anything. also you might have had the light to close. buy HID lighting or at least compact flourescents, which screw into normal sockets.

i had this problem im only on my second attempt after killing the first 2 plants i had =O but ive been referred to flourescents an im told that enough high wattage fl's will be good enough lay off the plant food too much can be fatal, other than that might be worth reading like hell up on it get an indoor grow book it helps a lot even if u dont like reading
