Yeah dude, move it at least 2ft above the plant immediately. You really need to read before applying.

hmmm....i dunno what sized space ur in or what kinda ventilation ya got, but im able to keep my 400 watter a ft away from mine with no probs at all. And i just got a darn fan blowin over the tops of em.........hmmmm but ya sounds like to needa continue to raise it a bit. But further explain where the leaves r getting crumbly at......is it just the places that got burnt that r doin that or everywhere?

put your hand under the light and move it untill you don't burn your hand that how far away your light should be. 12-18 inch's

more often then not i read people stretching there plants because the light is to far away.

I have two large fans in there and my hps light is air cooled. So i was suprised heat was a problem. I just hope they can overcome the stress.

I've had my aircooled 1000w hps less than a foot away from the tops with no burning. Strange............

I think you cooked their goose pretty good. I would not dare start a baby pant within 6 feet of a 400 HPS. Move em up or the light down real gradually. Prob be a good plan to flush em and start over. Chalk it up to experience. Hopefully you was not using some rich folks seed:)

I've grown from seed under a 400w hps.. Granted it's not right under it, but a couple feet worked well. Kept the plant nice and bushy.

Also, my 400w has no problem being 6-8" off the canopy. It doesn't get THAT hot..
