3'X4 1/2' closet...
Painted flat white (Kool Seal)...
Have a CO2 tank...
Have a PL lighting system HPS 400W and 600W (don't use at the same time)...
No venting, have in the past just left the
closet door open??? (am I losing light, does the door need to be shut)...I have recently bought a dayton blower, but I live in an apt. where the hell am I gonna run it to, there is no attic, I live on the top floor, can't be much space between the sheetrock and roof (very flat roof). Damn HID's are hot, fluros seem so much better for my setup but the Power to Flower???
I use Hydroponics, have used dwc but want to go Ebb&Flo.......Like a dumbass I used the HPS thru entire growth, will now get a MH conversion bulb for veg...

OK I think maybe my MAIN problem is Ventilation??? I am not dumb, just had to wing it living in an apt...Also I had duck taped blk plastic over the window in the bedroom where the closet is, so it would be DARK when lights were out. The whole damn bedroom was hot and stuffy, I bet ur thinkin damn?

The growth in the "Poor Ol Growroom" now in the veg stage they looked awesome, lights on 24 or sometimes 18hrs......BUTTTTT when I went to the flower stage with 12/12 lights shit went down hill, leaves dying, but they did bud and budded very sticky and dank. ( the buds were so light and airy never could get hard dense buds, buttt they were potent, yes I use indica not sativa)...
IT IS LIKE SOMETHING HAPPEN WHEN THE LIGHTS WENT OUT ON THE 12/12.??? Always had to have very quick muturing strains, the damn setup could not make it past 8 weeks in the flower stage to be any good, 8 weeks and under very potent, past 8 weeks useless....

New idea's, close closet door, drill hole in wall to vent air out with some type of hood so I have no light leak? Drill hole in wall for wires from fan lights CO2 etc, no outlet inside closet...Ebb&flo so plants are not in water in the 12hrs of darkness, plus for me dwc is a pain to deal with water changes...???

HELP ADVICE, want the flower stage to look as good as the veg stage with hard dense buds.

Thanks,
Miss RockCandy

Welp yeah Ventilation. The door being open really isnt going to cut it venilation wise and yeah any light you see comeing out that door is light wasted. You have got to exaust that heat from those lamps. Your not useing both at same time? Why? Because it gets way to hot with both lamps?? Just the open door not even a small electric fan blowing on the canopy?

Not sure what your lamps look like. I like the ones that can be vented, the ones that have a vent hole on each side of the reflector or the ones that the bulb is basicly inside a glass tube. You run your fan and plumb the vent pipe through the fixture cooling them. The key thing is to get out all that heat from the lamps and bring in new fresh air to promote growth.

As far as where and how to vent it. Here are some things to think about. Venting it overhead i suppose is possible, That area in there has to be atleast as wide as wooden beams used to build it which is big enough. The problem is that I am betting that its filled with insulation. Your probally better off venting it out into the apartment useing a carbon filter. You may also try to vent it into the cold air return of your froced air heater if thats what the apartment is heated with.

I feel for ya bro. Not owning the place and the location defently limits ya. Although you should be able to find something that will work even if you have to leave that door open with some fans blowing air in and out of the room through it and add a fan in the bedroom to blow that air outa there to.

May your buds always be sticky!

SyriuslyDelyrius,

Hey thanks for reading and the reply, I did think about the cold air return, the door is in the same bedroom and has a big ass fan so strong that it is colder in the bedroom with the closet growroom (note this is a new apt vs last one I grew in).
BUT I don't think I should in case landlord needs to come in the breaker box is in the cold air return as well...My lights like a dumbass did not buy them with the cool housing but hell I would have to vent them as well..and where to vent is the problem.

LOL no I do not use both lamps at the same time, I had got the 600w thinking it would make the buds more dense. Really with the size of the closet I could not tell the difference between the 400w or 600w...So I plan to just stick with the 400w
for less heat and less energy.

Hmmm so I was right leaving the closet door open is wasted light...yea your right will have to vent out into the bedroom that the growroom closet is in...The growroom has their own bedroom...Just use carbon you say,

Damn what about intake, same air going back in?
I have studied the area, in the closet backside wall leads to bathroom, right side of closet leads to hallway of my apt. Could make a hole in the hallway for intake, but my nasty habit of smoking cigs don't want cig smoke in there.

You have helped and got me thinking more, thanks. Well this help to get rid of the airy light buds?

P.S.
I am a girl

Those light airy buds can be caused by many things, lack of light, neuts, ventilation, room temp, etc.. Obviously with no ventilation thats the place to start. Your not going to get any escaping light if you use a vent fan and tubes. The plane and simple fact is you got to get the old hot air out and the cool co2 rich air in. With no ventilation those plants are taking out all the co2 from the air and its not being replaced with fresh air. Yeah i know ya have co2 but I am wondering if your measuring the lvls, heck i am wondering what the room temp, humidity and all that as well. So your going to have to somehow hide 2 vents 1 incomeing 1 out.

Another thought about the cold-air return. Normally how these cold air returns are set up in a house is as follows. There isnt a pipe in that wall that your cold air return vent is on and if there is your most likley in the heat vent side not air intake. So what is done is that there is no insulation in the part of the wall that has that coldair intake in it, There is just an open space and either in the top beam of the wall or the floor has a hole and a pipe leading to the cold air intake. Therefore if your cold air intake is on the outside of a wall of your room and you can cut a hole in the wall your set. Temporaly remove the cold air vent and inspect it you can drill a hole through there to your room or better yet mesure where those 2 wall studs fall in your room and punch your hole into that section but far enough away so cant be seen from looking in the vent. If your closet doenst share the wall space of that cold air return you could make a fake one by buying a cold air vent installing it on the outside wall of the room and again vent your pipe into that space from the inside of the room.

If you have a good powerfull exaust system new air is going to get in through the cracks in the wall, under the door, and where ever else. However providing a good source of cool air will make it more efficient. You can do the same thing as i said above by getting an air vent and installing it on an outside wall but not the same spot as the exaust. So from outside the room it looks just like a vent and on the inside of the room you just need a hole into that same wall space. You have to move that air arround that lamp so some big fans blowing air accross the lamp as well as on the canopy.

As far as carbon filter. Yeah your exaust fan is in the room and your filter will hook to where it sucks in the air. Cleaning the air inside the room before its exausted. YOU DEFENTLY WANT A GOOD FILTER. Especially if you useing that cold air return because your in an apartment which means you possibly going to be pumping your air into other peoples living space.

The more I think about it your going to be safer to put a fake cold air intake on an outside wall of the room and use that to vent your room out into your apartment still useing a filter. You can still safely use the cold air intake system of the apartment for the incomeing air and that would be a rather nice source of cooler air. That layout for the paintbooth is fine and you can instead of venting that out a window but into a hole in the wall with a vent on the outside of it..

Hope this helps you out hun..
Best of Luck and Best of smoke!!

Oh and lol about that picture... Notice the big wooden box for the intake but there is just a blue piece of foam next to the fan.. I pretty much garentee ya that the nice wood box there holds 1 or more carbon filters that were cleaverly excluded from the photo..

I have no idea just how much modifying your able to do in that appartment. Another thing to think about would be the vent for a cloths dryer. You can put one of those on the outside of the house and exaust it outside that way. If you have a dryer in there you may just be able to plumb your vents into its. I had a buddy that had his landlord hook up "laundry room" connections never to ever have a dryer ever hooked up in it! LOL.

Just keep thinking and researching it you should figure something out..

Hey yr the man!!!!
Thanks!!!
I just got a Stud Sensor to locate the studs in the wall and a drywall cutter...
Checking out the central air system and yr right all kinds of room and options...

Thought about also cutting a hole in the back of the closet and that leads to the bathroom closet. Mount the dayton blower to the hole and blow it out into the bathroom and turn on the bathroom exhuast fan (Guetto style)??? Then cut a hole for intake inside the bedroom nice and clean air separate from bathroom air.

Yea have a laundry room but it is not very private it is right near the entrance door to the apt, walk in and to the left is the living room. company and landlord would hear it, fans water pump etc and intake air would be a bitch since it is so viewable would have to make a false door inside cause it has those sliding vented looking doors.

Love yr cold air return idea, but I am a little confused being a girl ya know but I have the sense to figure it out...Have you ever watched the "how to grow weed" on youtube? "How to grow weed" or "How I grow Chronic" is a 9 part video 10mins each and he is the best I have ever seen and super fun to watch. He he painted green with a paintsuit on and socks. NEVER A DULL MOMENT he works his ass off.

How do you do it or do you even grow?

Thanks a Million

Your getto-fab way will work exaust it into the bathroom and up towards the top of the room if possible because thats where your exaust vent fan is built into the bathroom. To bring new air you just mount a vent on the outer wall. For example if the closet shares walls with the hallway you can mount a vent like this on the wall near the floor.
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=17159-228-622REV16424&lpage=none

You can use these vents to disquize both your intake and exaust. They mount on the outside wall of the room. There are wall studs holding the place up. Most inteerier walls dont have insulation. So there is basiclly a big void of space inbetween your walls. If you cut a hole and mount that vent on an outside wall of the room then from inside the room put a hole that leads into that same "void" between those same 2 wall studs. If your vent is mounted near the floor then your hole on the other side of the wall should me higher if not near the ceeling.

That exaust fan in the bathroom has to be vented someplace being able to tap into that may also be an option.

As far as how I grow and if I currently am.. At this very moment no i dont have a garden of my own. I have had quite a few nice rooms back in the day. I have multiple friends with rooms and I havent really had the time or need. I have read and watched a ton of videos on the subject and I have had the most success with just a simple hydroponic drip system. I havent messed arround with useing just air as a medium although when I do finally get back to it I will defently give that a go. There is a post on the forums here with a lot of good grow info as well. https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/116859-harvest-pound-every-three-weeks.html

Yep also love ya vent idea and for the bathroom vent, it vents out the roof (LOL I want to go up on the roof and check out the scene...it has a ladder in the hallway for maintenance, too nervous that my neighbors would freak out...I know I would think something if I seen the neighbor up on the roof.

So on to the vents, hey so excited I went to Lowes today to check out your vent and low and behold I think I found the perfect vents. First yes your vent is perfect for the intake, but for the outake exhausting I noticed a dryer vent hood cover with a screen bottom inside big enough to put in a diy carbon filter and will block light all at the same time and if someone did open the bathroom closet it would not look odd cause hell I planed on just having a hole there open the door and turn on the bathroom fan, wow all the cool ideas in Lowes...And doing research anyone afraid of cutting holes, hey it is no big deal to fix, go to Lowes get some drywall mud and some drywall if the hole was to big and you can easily fix it cheaply when you move. Just google how to fix a hole in drywall, LOL I found about it when I was researching how to cut a hole. Extra tidbit what do you think they do when you move out, the holes from yr pictures, hooks, mirrors etc. You never move into a new place with holes in the wall from someones pictures shelves etc...

Your vent is perfect for the intake cause the bedroom is light proof, got some Blackout drapes for the window cause I want to crack the window sometimes (I think? it gives me a backup for co2 and real fresh air at the same time, vs my last setup I had taped and nailed black plastic to the window and it caused mildew, hell I made the damn room airproof and lightproof). Learning and experience, also in these forums searching info on cfl fluors I also learned that replacing my regular household bulbs with cfl's will reduce engery usage by 75%. YES it is true my bill was less with the cfl's and I love them I got the 2700k warm white 14w-20w and the color is so dreamy in the living room etc...But bummed out that sure in the veg stage everything is peachy king but in the flower stage the better light is hps, cause so many lumens would be needed for the flowering and heat and power would come close to the 400w hps, so I think? I am better off with the hps, one lamp one plug vs a whole lot of fluos and cfl's. Sorry the dreamy color is appealing to me I am into the arts so bla bla etc, LOL I love the color of a hps bulb... ( I wanted to change to fluros in the growroom cause I thought it would less drama for heat and venting )

Can't wait to see the impovement that I want:)
One last dumbass question, ok I got the exhuast fan for venting out hot air (damn I hope I got the right one???) A dayton blower 131cfm I did the math for the size and it will work for my small setup. But how the hell do u put on the ducting when it is a flat square 4"x51/8" with 4 predrilled holes? I could not find a adapter, so I figured I would a cut a hole in the growroom and mount it flat on the wall and outside the hole rig up the filter in the bathroon in case of unexpected company??? I see these grow rooms with their setups and the ducting even with the dayton fan, now with the fans that have the round exit end I can understand, but mine damn did I screw up cause I can not find a adapter with a round end say for example for 4" ducting...

P.S. my room is for personal use only and only do it once a year...

Make a square wooden box that has a square hole on 1 side (mount that blower to it there) and on the other side of that wood box is a round hole to fit your vent tubeing. This box could also be built to inclose a filter.
