help 6 or 8 315w CMH in a 10x10 tent???

Hi,

I was wondering if you can help me with my tent setup. I will be running 2 tents, 1 with 6x450w chilLED and the other with 6x315w CMH. My question is on the CMH setup.

315w*6 lights = 1890w/220v = 8.59amps per tent

If 6 lights is drawing about 8.59amps per tent. Do I really need to a light controller ? or can I just plug all the lights into a power strip connected to a timer? any suggestion on what controller to use with this setup? this was suggested to me just wondering if its overkill since my calculation is about 20amp per tent with portable AC and fan..ect

I think with ballast loss the amps will be a bit more than 8.9 for 6 x 315w fixtures. But i would not try using a power strip,nor have i seen one made for 220/240v power.i would use a lighting control box 6 to 10 outlet.this should be an awesome side by side.

For the money of cmh i would DIY a good Cob led/Quantum boards setup. You can beat the efficiency/yield per watt easily with led and save some unwanted electrical costs and heat.

To answer I wouldn't go with less than 8 315s in that space and that would actually be on the low end to me.

How much will 8 315s cost you?

I'm getting the 315w at cost from hydrofarm @300 a unit from a buddy.

personally, if i were doing only 315w bulbs, i would do 9 lights, three
rows of three. but i am running a 315w/COB combo room currently,
and it is kicking the living shit out of the COB only grows. it's lower
wattage per square foot, more frosty than the COB only, and more
solid farther down the plant. the 315w/COB combo room is hitting
1.4-1.5 g/w, COB only room hits 1.2-1.4 g/w. it's not like i'm displeased
with the COB only, but better is better.

9 lights. That way you can push your two 4x8s together, making a square. And have 3 rows of 3 lights. Each light covering approximately a 3x3 area.

And just get a light controller. No power strips.

I'm getting the 315w at cost from hydrofarm @300 a unit from a buddy.
You can match that price with diy kits and never have to buy bulbs and use less watts/ less heat. Horticulture Lighting Group has a 250 watt quantum board kit that will put out more light than a 315 and the cost is the same. Also look into cobkits citizen kits and also timbers kits as well. A 315 setup is roughly 1.5-1.6 umol/j. Any of the above mentioned will outperform the 315s per watt. The HLG QB kits are 2.3+ umol/j. Depending on how hard you drive them the Citizen 1212 gen 6 can be 2+ as well . In such a large tent i do some research before purchasing anything.

What temps are you running the cob only side at?

it stays in the 70s, the room is on a 12/12 split, 300w at night,
200w during the day. both the COB tents and my mixed source
room run at positive pressure. tents pull cool filtered air from
the bottom of the room near the floor and pass the cool air
over the heat sinks on the way into the tent.

The cob room is running too cool. That's why the cmh hybrid does better. The infrared heat. Try running the cob only room at 82 and see if that helps ;-)
