here ya go... first attemt using the RIU attachment thing so we will see how this works lol... its the same pic cuz i dont have a camera... its a bit blurry, but you can kind of see he has cherry eye in one eye... needs surgery to fix it... :leaf:

that sucks the stem broke... how bad is it? i think you have plenty of time it should heal just fine :leaf:
He's cute. Is he a rescue? Sucks about his eye, poor thing. :-(

The stem folded over bruising one side of it. The damage isn't too bad, so I'm hoping it won't even phase the plant.

yeah, he is a rescue... I was at my old appartment complex visiting a friend, and his neighbor asked if I new anyone who wanted a pit... her daughter was in jail and she couldnt afford to feed him or anything.. I went and looked at him and asked how much (they told me he is purebread bluenose... im pretty sure he is amstaff, i could be wrong) they said free so i took him... im pretty sure the girls boyfriend beat him bad... seems like the side of his face with the cherry eye was all swollen when I got him... and his jaw seemed weird... and I think he had a cracked/broken rib or two... he is great now, and I have 2 small kids... a 2 and 3 year old and he is awesome with them so ya... im glad we could help him out of that situation... I just need to get him to the vet and get him checked and see about this eye surgery but ya he is awesome I love him lol :leaf:

Wow, poor guy. Sounds like the pup has had a really hard life already...so sad. Good for you for taking him in and giving him a new outlook on life. People who neglect and abuse animals are some of the biggest pieces of shit ever in my book. Thanks for sharing your story. The pitbull community needs more people like you and a whole lot less people like his previous owner.

any chance you can post a pic showing the damage? isnt there a type of lst or hst where you pinc the stem and move 90 degrees and pinch again... so maybe it will actually help your yeild???

let's look at the other type of high stress training: stem mutilation. Now, there are interesting theories, methods and discussions invovling both the science and application of this type of training. This type of training is known by many different names:

-Crushing the herd
-Supercropping
-Stem-smashing
-Leaning the stem over

All of them have the same general idea: mutilate the stem evenly around an area so that the stem bends over at a 90 degree angle. In this case, we aren't removing a piece of the plant, but rather damaging an area of the plant so that the angle of the branch changes.

The most common methodology for crushing the stem is to pinch the stem enough that it breaks and separates a bit. Then, turn your pinch by 90 degrees and pinch again. This will cause the tip of the plant to fall over at an angle.

Supercropping can be done during vegetative growth to achieve effects similar to LST. That is: the apical tip will be bent downwards once the branch has been pinched. This causes the plant to think that it needs to send new tips to grow towards the light source.

Supercropping can also be done during flower to keep those stretchy plants from burning themselves. There are plenty of examples of supercropping well into flower w/out having too adverse of an effect on the plant:

Obviously, some strains will respond better than others. In addition, if you supercrop well into flower and you have some heavy budsites, you may find the stem has troubles supporting itself. Be smart about it and don't crush the stems too hard if you don't think the plant will grow out of it.

Let's check the pros and cons of this type of training:
-Pros

1. Not as stressful as removing plant parts
2. Less worry of failure
3. Not as prone to infection
4. Quick and easy

-Cons

1. Somewhat inprecise
2. Can have a learning curve
3. Changes for different strains

Subscribed. I really like your setup SSLWorld. I was wondering if anyone knew where i could get one like that because i am getting paid soon and didnt want to spend as on my tent so i could put more money towards other things like all my meters and ph testers. This is the tent but i was wondering if anyone thought it would be too much for like 3-5 plants and would a 150w hps system efficent for that number of plants.

From what I have seen, you've got roughly a 2'x2'x2' coverage w/ 150w HID. Probably 1-2 plants comfortably.
If you step up to a 250w, it goes to 3 cubic ft, or a healthy 2-3 plants. Rule of thumb is approx 8000 lumens per sq ft.

I'll post a pic tomorrow when the girls wake up. It really isn't a big deal especially since the plant can still stand without support. She should heal up nicely, I'm pretty sure...

I've heard of the method of training you posted. Supercropping is different than the damage I caused because you do it during veg, not 4+ weeks into flower. Common sense tells me that mutilating the stem on a plant this mature probably isn't a good thing. lol.

Thanks, glad you like it. But if you have a question not pertaining to my grow, you should really start your own thread.

If you are going to go with a tent, you should look into a remote ballast hps instead of the built-in type. It'll allow you to keep the ballast outside the tent reducing temps and the weight on the top of the tent. Just my two cents...

you said its not the same damage... but you should still be okay... especially if its still able to hold its self upright :leaf:

For some reason, I completely skipped that part lol. I'm going to let it heal and experiment with supercropping on a younger, clonable plant. Thanks for your insight, that clears up some confusion for me. :bigjoint:

**UPDATE 11-21-09**

Sorry for the delay but here are the updated pictures of my lovely ladies. The bagseed is probably still a few weeks out but is looking and smelling rediculously dank. Definitely doesn't resemble the bag weed I found the seed in. I counted 15 colas on the right plant and 10 colas on the left plant. Amazing considering I never cut a single thing off the plant, only LST.

The Easyryder is filling out nicely and should finish in two weeks or so. The Afghan Kush Ryder is right behind it since the fan leaves are starting to yellow and die off as the bud sucks the energy out of them. This is all really exciting at this stage, I can't wait until harvest.

I also received my seed order from attitude and have started germinating two trainwreck, two thai super skunk, and one royal kush seeds in rockwool cubes that should be sprouted nicely when I get back from my holiday vacation.
