heat up to 100F

So I have a 400w light in a closet with a folding sliding door. The light was illuminating the entire room, and the next, and was very noticeable that my lights were always on. I put up some black poly and now the temp is reaching 100 F at night. I open the door to air it out during the day, but at night....what should I do to lower the temp?

I have my light on 24 hours, I could cut back to 18 and 6, should I? I have a fun but at night it just blows the hot air around. Thanks for the help.

Will add pictures in about an hour, camera is acting weird.

cutting back to a 18/6 light schedule would be a big help. 6 hours less of trying to keep it cool.

Air circulation is key. We tell people time and time again that if you want to run HPS lights, you NEED to exhaust the hot air out of the grow area.

+1 on 18/6. Run your lights from 5pm to 11am; that's what I do.

Thanks, here's some pictures. I have a fluorescent in the back too with some peppers and basil. 4 indica from some seeds and 2 smaller slower growing (normal) staivas. Not sure on sex yet, but hoping!!! They have been cut using the FIM, some cut more than others as I am new to it, but I love it, has promoted a lot of veg growth.

please more advice, I'd like some help without getting an ac unit, or vent, I can't really vent. My lights just went off for the first time...6 hours. I still have my fluorescent on, hopefully the temp doesn't go up too much, I'll be waking up around sunrise to open the door again. Light is back on at 5 am. Post results tomorrow.

Yeah with a HPS you need an exhaust fan def. I would veg with T-5's then save $$$$ for an exhaust fan for when you flower you can put the HPS in. But with that small closet you def need exhaust fan for the 400 HPS, just keeping the closet open might help too good luck.

I have the same issue what i do is.. light goes on at 12 am till 6 pm.. from 12 am till like about 11 am i have cfl on .. after about 11 am when i wake up i usually turn on the hps and have circulation.. one fan inside and another one pointing towards the light from the outside.. i cannot vent or get a port. a/c so try it out.. put like 6-cfl in there youll be good during ur sleeping hours

you can't ask for advice, then shoot down all the suggestions. Adjusting schedule will help, but in the long run you simply need ventilation. The heat has to go somewhere, it won't just magically disappear.

All it understandable. I can't put holes for vents, and I just added the black poly to hide the light from the outside of the house. The DEA is in town and busted a couple of people already. I have switched to 18 on and 6 off. The fluorescent is on and causes no heat. It's about 74 now, same as the house. The temp stays at 72 when the closet door is kept open, but I don't want anyone snooping woundering why my lights are on all night. I may just get blackout curtains, so I can keep my closet open. Or I was thinking of building a cabinet, that way I can vent, and if I move I can take it with. I'm taking every suggestion I can, just a lot more people were looking than posting.
