Heat stressed?

It was 31C today and they get about 11hours direct sunlight a day. I thought they would be bigger with all that sunlight on day 9 or do they just gather slower speed outdoors? Some of the indoors I see on here looks way bigger at the same stage. Anyone think they look heatstressed?

Definitely heat stress.

Check my grow journal, it's a good example., mine were at 32c... stunted growth a ton! More than you could imagine. I changed the temps alot + added a fan, turned on in-line extractor fan. Open vents for passive airflow Everything to make them cooler.

They will stay roughly that size + another 2 leaves indefinitely for the next few weeks unless you sort out your temps.

They like 76-81f. drop the temps by a good 6-7c. They are currently being suffocated, and allowed no room to breathe.

Imitate their actual environment, they grow naturally on nice breezy hill tops.

They are still seedlings!! Treat them as seedlings. Would you want to be throw into an oven for 11 hours a day? Ofcourse not. 1-2 hours a day they can handle in direct sunlight. The rest of the time they need to be left inside. You will want to start your plants off indoors under some cfl's and if you can a propagator.

Could i just give them some shade for say four hours a day and keep a fan on it outside. I dont have any light setup inside so have to keep outside. That wont make it stretch?

I have no experience on growing outside, but I would recommend you start them off indoors. If they are going to be grown outside, introduce a small amount of sunlight each day to them.

Any yes, use a fan anything you can use to keep them at 24-25c, 31 is way too high. adults can handle that kind of heat pretty well.

As long as you keep your temps in mid 70's and then around 50-60% you should do fine, I'm not an outdoors grower either all the info I give to you is for indoors you can go to the outdoor section and post there. But your best bet is to do some research.

11 hours of direct sunlight for the seedlings is way too much. They don't have the capacity to utilize that much. Go with a couple hrs direct and the rest shaded, indoor fluorescent, or indirect sunlight.
I would recommend vegging indoors, otherwise they will start flowering right away, which at this time of the year would be too early and you'll end up with really small plants with underdeveloped root systems.

Would this light be ok just for a while untill i can expose them to sunlight again

That'll work if you can keep it a couple of inches away from the seedlings.

Cant see any markings. Just my kitchen roof light. How close should i have it. A bit difficult to get within inches as its mounted to my ceiling

Thanks managed to get it right under the light. So ill do two hours a day direct sunlight and then the rest under the light. Hopefully they start to look better soon

If getting the light down closer to the lamp is not possible can you somehow get some kind of platform to put the plants closer to the light? Otherwise your plant will stretch for the light a looooooong wayyyyy.

Thanks. This is what I've done. I just pull the fridge out when I bring them in and its less than 3 inches to the smallest one. They're outdoor now its like 7 in the morning bringing them in at 9

would this also work? Just have the one 15w cool daylight for all three, using a pasta strainer and some foil to try and reflect more light.

That's great but lose the foil it is no good creates hotspots. You can use plain white computer paper that would be better.

Think of it this way your wife just brought home a newborn would you start out giving it grownup food? Of course not! Start off small then ratchet up your schedule. As they get bigger s l o w l y introduce them to more lights outside otherwise you'll shock them...again. Feed them just plain water for now. I use a turkey Baster for feeding my babies 2 full Baster full of water @ 2days. And I feed them distilled water.

BTW with all the talk about your lighting I never bothered to find out what kind of soil are you using? I grow organic so its all about the soil, I feed my soil not the plant. Read up on outdoor growing here on RIU lots of great folks there they can point you in the right direction. I'm an indoor grower right now in soil but I'm looking to grow outdoors this spring and I'll be checking out the outdoor section myself.
