Heat problems with 80x80x160 tent

So I’m new to all of this but I got my self a cheap 5” black orchid kit so carbon filter and fan and a 400w hps with standard reflector but it’s so hot so I dim to 250w witch is a pain anyway I was having heat problems so I bought a 5” tt fan as it pulls more my temps are still 30c maybe 35 on a hot day so I now got my self a 6” tt in-line but had to connect it to my 5” filter and 5” duct and temps are gon down from 33c to 30c what am I doing wrong I tried to put my only fan at a intake but it’s just to put in the tent even with a speed controller the air gets push out the tent rather then get suck through the filter I need help for this temp will it be better when I 6” duct comes and also I need to get a 6” filter at some point just tight on money at the mo

That’s a small space for a 400 like a meter by meter a 400 is meant for I have a 250 in that space and my temps are 28 this summer 25 usually with two clip on fans and five inch extractor no filter itl slow ya airflow down and for what they do they ent worth it

I get 6.88 sqft unless I messed up with the conversion lol. That puts the 400 at 58 watts per sqft so it's on the high end for sure but I run a little more with CO2 enrichment. A 250 would only be 36.3 watts per sqft, not enough for full on flower IMO.

A space better suited to a 315 CMH probably.

What are the ambient temps?

You may want a push / pull setup with two fans one intake and one exhaust. Or just a much bigger exhaust fan. Depends on the ambient temperature. Are you exhausting the heat outside or into the room where the tent is located? That could warm the ambient temperature and make the system less effective.

That is the first thing the person should have done is say if the 80 x 80 x 160 was in inches for clarity or not.

Well I am American and lazy so I would like it if they put feet, inches and gallons and my biggest peeve Fahrenheit but yeah I am guessing it is metric 80cm because of the Celsius temps. That and the fact that a 13+ foot tent dimension didn't make sense.

I mean it could have been either Inches or Centimeters.

In centimeter's that's about 2.6 x 2.6 x 5.2 feet.

Inches it would be : 6.6 x 6.6 x 13 feet

The later, would not have a problem with smaller 400 sized light.

Also @Growgrowgadget you should be sucking the hot air out of the tent through the carbon filter.

But I can’t have a cool tube I don’t think as I have no holes near the top sides only one at the top for exhaust and 2 at the bottom
You setup your exhaust fan to suck air through the cool tube and blow it out of the tent. So you don't need more holes.

Grow supplies stores sells different size collars/flanges. Use them to cut holes in your tent for the needed intake/exhaust ports. Cheers :weed:

But where exactly would the carbon filter go
You have it directly attached to the end of the tube or with duct and a little bend if needed.

I used to run 3 in a row with filter >fan>tube>tube>tube>out.

But for a small set up you can run
Filter>tube>fan>out Using ducting where needed.
You can incorporate Rigid bends if it helps.

You can even have the fan on top of tent ducted to pull air through tube and filter.

You have to be a bit more creative with small tents.

Wow. Is this 2005 or what?
Just strap up a carbon filter, CanLite (light one for the tent) no matter the brand, run ducting from filter to air cooled reflectors. Run ducting from reflectors out of the tent, and hopefully not into a room your tent is in to only reheat your tent or the whole dang room.
