Hawaiian Genetics From Hawaii

If anyone is looking for a seed source in Hawaii check out Big Island Genetics at https://www.bigislandgenetics.org/

You are ordering from the breeder himself in HI and he ships to the states plus no Border Customs of course. I have also seen some of his stuff at Seeds Here Now. I guess he has been featured a couple of times in High Times if I remember right.

So I placed my order on 12/08/19 and of course Holiday mail slowed things down but I got my package today Yahoo!

If you are looking for a Hawaiian heirloom he has Kauai Electric IBL at least right now.

That guy has bunk genetics. I know people here that have grown out his 2 main varieties and they were weak at best!!
I guess High Times could of lowered their standards regarding who they have in the Mag. That is if they have standards.

If it's one thing I have learned is no matter who or what you offer as a suggestion sooner or later someone will stop by and say it's a bunch of crap. Never fails.

So did you grow any of the dude's seeds yourself or is your response based solely on hearsay? Now it could be true or it could be another's lack of growing skills I dunno. I guess I will find out for myself though because the beans are already in the bag. Well in a little while anyways, it's like #15 in the line up of beans in the stable waiting for their first run.

I scored one of the limited release 5- pack of Motarebel's Ghost Ridge OG (ghost og x sfv og bx) at a place called The Seed Source in Rhode Island or at least that's where the caller ID said they are. It's pretty much sold out everywhere else so I was really happy to find it. The package just got mailed yesterday so I can't report on their product/quality/shipping but I'll post when I find out. They take CC's but only over the phone. Real polite gentleman answered when I called in info. Yes sir this and yes sir that. Hope it adds up to a good buying experience to the end.

Okay so it is looking more damning but the beans are already here.
So I give up. Who has a legit site selling legit hawaiian genetics?

I already tried Pua Mana 1st Hawaiian Pakalōlō Seed Bank and they are a straight rip-off. Got quick response emails until I sent money in by Venmo. Then no seeds and no further response to emails. Then I find a link to info on the website owner https://www.scamion.com/pua-mana-39-ohana-bb
which confirms my money went bye-bye. Now I try BIG and supposedly their genetics suck and they rip off others work.

Excuse my frustration but is there an honest hawaiian seedbank out there? Because if the latest info is true it sure don't look like it. two for two? Geez!

And that's what is great about this forum is people like @kona gold here that can give the rest of us a true heads up! Thanks Kona :) Hard pass on this one.
Always good to hear from you my friend.
I met the guy also and he was a big bragger because of the Hith Times articles. But I heard him talk and talk and talk. .... Called Pourtagee over hea.
So I never hold much respect for those types.
Then my friend who is the main grower for Hilo dispensery, which is ok, said he grew their Puna diesel and the orange strain. When I brought some of my Tangie keeper for him to try, he said their genetics were not even close to what I brought for sample.
I know the Tangie I have is good, bit with all his hype, his should have been much stronger.

If you have read High Times for many many years, you would notice not many articles about Hawaiian herb or Hawaiian growers.
So I think they found someone who would be able to write an article about, but not necessarily know who are the great growers and breeders in Hawaii

Arent the true Hawaiian genetics all tampered with at this point? I thought (like the south american strains) they had all been corrupted with other genetics to improve things like grow time, but ruin things like... buzz.
Hawaiian landraces have never existed but there are local cultivars that could be consider heirlooms. Every strains was imported here at some point in time but its the growing environment that makes Hawaii cannabis unique.

Well yes and no!
All strains from Hawaii or called hawaiian, were from somewhere else.
So addition of new genetics is very common.
That said, the breeding done on local strains, in the past, was preservation and continued improvements. Because of the shorter seasons, they were bred to finish fast in the seasons.
Only problems now, is most of the new stuff doesn't like the climate here! Humid and rainy with a lot of sun!
So there is things that were never here before. Like powdery mildew, certain mites and others.

Greenhouse Seeds has the best strains for Hawaii. Yet to grow Hawaiian Snow...

I've smoked Kauai electric, was pretty intense. Not what I'm looking for, but stoked to do.
