Having problems with first grow.

So I put my first grow on, to be specific September 9th or 11th I forget but anyway I started the seeds in water for roughly 48 hours, then transferred them to rockwool cubes. So far only one of them seems to have grown and the other ones haven't really done much.

One of them is about an inch with no leaves and sadly that's the best one. At first I started them under 2 small fluorescent tube lights just sitting in rockwool cubes in a tray. I started them with 24hrs light and they haven't really done much so I switched to 18/6 and still nothing these last few days. They are all green and I only give them water, currently they are under two 23 watt CFL's.

The first week or so I had the 10 cubes in a clear plastic pencil case with the lid on and now I leave it off. I haven't given them any nutes just straight water.

This is frustrating, obviously I did something wrong. I will take pictures for you guys to laugh at.

Were the seeds actually germinated before you put them into the rockwool cubes or were they just wet?

most people seem to reckon that u should soak them overnight at least, i dunno why exactly, maybe the water penetrates the fibres or sumthing, what i will say is that i soak mine overnight in water and a little nutrient solution and ive always had good success. on my present grow it was 100%. i soaked the seeds overnight in cups of water until they had all sank to the bottom, then i paper towel germ'd them, this took about 2 days at which point they all had cracked and given me half inch at least taproots. then into the pre-soaked and squeezed rockwool. i rip my rockwool open so i can place the seed exactly where i want it with the tap pointing down and then under 2 x 55 watt cfls for around a week, i spray them every few hours with plain water, by which time all had given me leaves and were an inch tall or so. then 4 into dwc and 3 into soil. all lookin healthy and growing happily under 400watt dual spec hps. hope this helps.

i never soaked mine overnight, i let them soak for 15 min max lol. the thing to remember with rockwool is that its 100% inert. other than the crap your rinsing off, theres nothing in there. perhaps they need some nutrients. potassium and phosphorus are good for rooting, then nitrogen for veggie, then back to potassium and phosphorus for flowering. the key here is to go very very week. we are talking seedlings. so not even 1/4th strength..

I just don't get what's going on, all growth seems to be completely stalled. I'm thinking I might just get some more seeds, plant them in soil and start over again.

Starting seeds in soil is easier you'll find. Keep it warm with a heating mat and you'll be ok.
I just finished watching two seasons of Breaking Bad. I wouldn't have recognized that name otherwise.

ya, well I couldn't think of a name and I just finished watching Breaking Bad after signing up.

I'm going to get more seeds, start them in soil with a heating mat like you said. I have 8 23w CFL's how many should I use during the seedling stage? And when is the best time to transfer them over to hydro?

I think soaking for 48 hours did you in. soak for 6 hours max. they shouldnt need nutrients for a few weeks they have everything in the seed to start. keep them warm 70 78 degrees no hotter during germ. wash your hands real good before handling seed or potting mix.

I've never done a hydro grow. Ask hellraizer30. Tell him I sent ya. He might have dif ideas than a soil germ but he knows his shit.

Well a pretty well known seed place told me to soak for 48 hours, but I guess I will look into what most people do.

I also could have had them hotter than 78*'s as well, anyway live and learn I guess.

Make sure you pH the water to 5.5 before soaking and leave it for 24 hours. This is what I do and have great sucess.
