Haven't figured auto flowers out yet.

I'm growing heavyweight fast and vast and I haven't had the greatest luck so far. I got these because I thought they would be fun to grow outside over this past spring and summer. Let's just say some crazy shit happened and things didn't go the way I planned. I managed to grow a few, but none did as well I as I thought they would. These are really fast and are truly done inside of 60 days. I know that's not long, but I thought they would get more branches and have a little better yield. Best I did was 8.5 grams. Anybody got any tricks for making them branchy? I was outside in soil. 1 didn't germinate, 1 came up then died, 3 made it, but 1 got broken in a storm about a week early, 1 got eaten in half right when it started to bud, and the one that made it all the way only produced 8.5 grams with little branches. The one that got eaten was looking very similar. The one that broke looked very different. It got tall and had almost no branching. I assumed it to be an odd phenotype. It was grown in the spring and the other two in the summer. Anyway I've decided to plant the rest inside since I really don't have anywhere to grow outside anymore. The bud has been good, just not much of it. Now I'm in coco/perlite under 1000w mh 18/6 1 gallon cloth pots and I want branches! Anybody got any tricks? Have I just had bad luck? Think it'll be better inside?

Nobody? Should I fim such a fast plant? Will it end up yielding about the same amount either way? Anybody have any experience with really fast autos?

Sounds like you'd be better suited inside to avoid all the nuisances of nature - autos do yield relatively less because of the limited time frame but 8.5 is really low - My first auto grow I got roughly 42 g's per plant inside a 32" x 32" tent. What did you do for nutes? I hardly fed mine anything, but adjusted the pH to 6.5 for a good portion of the grow until my pH meter broke (these were in soil, all organic) - I noticed a significant difference in the growth using pH adjusted water vs. just my tap water. After the meter broke they were having a hard time getting all the nutrients w/ my really alkaline well water, so I'd say pH is pretty important.

For veg I used only silica blast, dr. earth liquid solution (3-3-3) every couple waterings, and let them dry out well before watering again. In flower I added a little bit of bloom nutes early on, and then some molasses towards the end. Think I watered with cal-mag once or twice too when it looked like they could use it.

It might be worth going through my grow journal and reading the replies from other RIU members because I asked a lot of AF questions during the grow and a lot of the responses were really good info:

I'm not an expert at all but these guys really steered me in the right direction - here was the harvest off the smallest plant in the tent:

But how fast were your plants? These are 8 week dwarf plants. I wasn't expecting more than 14 grams. What are the solo cup guys yielding?

The berry ryder is a ~60 day strain - I think I ran most of them closer to 70ish days from seed

This one was cut on day 62 if my notes were accurate:

LST bro...you can get more branching and get the branches fighting for apical dominance without stressing / slowing down growth much if at all. Just tie down the highest point until there's a new highest point and then tie that one down and so on

I'd definitely let them run a little longer than breeder time - the one that we pulled at 62 days was noticeably less potent than the ones that were closer to 70-75 days. It was good enough but not quite there if you know what I mean. The couple that got an extra 2 weeks get me ripped

Hmm... The one that had no problems went almost exactly 60 days from sprout outdoors in midsummer and that is a little longer than the breeder claims, anyway if it takes a little longer it's a good thing as far as I'm concerned, what are you expecting to yield jerryb? 42 grams sounds like crazy talk for an 8 or 9 week plant to me.

Lol nothing crazy about it the whole thing is documented with pictures ...trust me I was suprised too..Got damn near double what the original goal was. There's guys here that could of pulled off closer to a full bow out of the same area (I was around 7 oz total) so it's really not that farfetched

Ran a Berry Ryder and pulled an easy 7 zips off it. Used a simple DWC setup under a few 600w lights. Those autos can get pretty crazy tall and quick! I'll dig out some pics for ya.

Yeah I didn't even catch that - 3-5 gal is prob perfect for most auto strains
i have a AKR in a 5 gal 12/12 from seed and its probably the tallest one ive had so far its so stretched its not even funny ........
super lemon haze vs. AKR 12/12 from seed other then leaves and length of branches they are about the same in looks and height :p

I noticed you're pretty active in the auto forum so I'm sure you've got a good perspective on this - what do you think is better / more efficient?...photo 12/12 from seed or auto?

IMO hands down a auto on 24/0 will finish faster with almost the same yield as a photo 12/12 FS BUT the photo will probably yield a bit more ....... but they seem to take longer to go into flower ....... the SLH is showing preflower about the same time the AKR is starting to stack flowers .......... depends alot on strain and grower i guess ...... but i should have a decent conclusion in the next 4-6 weeks .......

when this one is out of the way i can get back to 24/0 ive been on 12/12 for about 4.5 months i believe and im ready to get back to the auto's >.>

bagseed from some kosher kush that accidentally got hit from a g13 ...... my buddy said one of his g13 clones threw some nanners after he was out of town on a emergency i asked to buy a few beans he told me to just buy a bag from him instead :p ended up with 15 beans or so out of a zip IMG1468.jpg
this one veg'd for a auto run (12 weeks's roughly ) then vegg'd on 13/11 - 14/10 while my semi auto's flowered(another 8 weeks ) then switched to 11/13 to kick it off finally
