Hatch New Mexico Chile Green

Hi,

This is my first post here and I wanted to know if anyone knows about these chile plants. Where to buy them, how to grow them, and what kind of nutes they eat.

I really want to grow these in my garden but I really have no experience with them.

These chile's are simular to the Anaheim green chile.

Thank you for any advise or help.

Welcome, welcome. They're very similar to the Anaheim and Big Jim. I've grown Anaheim, among other chiles, and I'd imagine it's not any different. They're pretty tolerant plants given they're being grown in a rather harsh climate. Nute wise, nitrogen and phosphorus, but it also depends on your soil. Are you growing in containers, veggie garden? I've had great success in growing with just water too. I'm sure you can find them online, and at some nursery's. Hatchs are the BEST roasted, and great on burgers. Oh just thinking about the wonderful smell is making me want some! Good luck to you LGB, cheers.

Hi LGB.

Here in Az you can pretty much go to any Latin market and buy New Mexico Chile's. I think a bag is like 2 or three bucks. Get the dried red or green pods. Keep and plant the seeds and make some sauce. Its a win win.

If you are going to grow in soil make sure it is well drained. Do not let temps get below 75 degrees, chilies dont do well in the cold. I have planted them in Ebb and Flow hydro units and in soil. For hydro I mix a solution that is 20-6-16 for veg for the first thirty days on a 16/8 light schedule and then switch to a 9-21-12 and a 12/12 light schedule in about two weeks they will be loaded with flowers. If you have proper air flow they will normally polinate themselves, but I usally flick each flower just to make sure. Lights need to be at least 250 watts in my experience anything less and blooms will just fall off and not fruit. In soil I am getting between 160 days from seedling to harvest for green and 165 for red although you can pick green with a tinge or red on them and they will turn red after picked if left to sit out.

After I harvest the closet Im going to try DWC and see if there any issues with water logged roots.
