Has Anyone Ever Trimmed The Roots Of Mother Plants In DWC Or Aero?

Has anyone ever trimmed the roots of their mother plants in dwc or their aeroponic systems? If so will it cause the plant to go into any type of shock?
Thanks & :peace: to the RIU community :hump:

What do you mean the wrong medium? Do you even understand the question? Many people grow mother plants & other plants in a deep water culture bubbler system or aeroponic system. I asked if roots could be trimmed for the long term because roots can get way out of hand especially if you plan on keeping a mother plant for a long time.

Thanks for the info & the link msdsm39. I appreciate it. I wanted to know this because you know keeping mother plants in these systems can get crazy with the roots. So this is good to know. :peace:

I have a female who I want to mother when she finishes flowering. I am considering putting her in soil and trying bonsai with her. i haven't considered keeping her on the aeroponics

I understand the question, but I have never met anyone who trims the roots of a mother in aero. I've never had a need to do it myself, either.

The only thing that may happen according to one of the post in the thread is that the plant may experience shock for a day or two but it will back to normal after that.

Growers do do it though from my understanding. If you really think about it, it is really not an abnormal procedure for dwc or aero. Roots have many places to form within soil but in a bucket system they can get in the way of sprayers, pumps, cause clogs, etc.... :hump:

No growth wont stop according to what Im hearing. I was interested in trimming to control the growth of roots from taking over the entire bucket system.

I do not mean to sound all omnipotent, however, I have actually grown bonsai trees for a number of years (non mj, mind you). When you cut the roots (in half), the plant goes into shock, and prohibits it from growing any larger. I doubt this would differ from hydro. :blsmoke:

No problemo. Let us know how your trimming goes, you've peaked my curiosity.

... in retrospect, when you say you heard it will not grow anymore, were you referring to new foliage? New nodes will continue to form, as well as leaves, so I hope I didn't confuse you. The 'height' of the plant will cease to continue to grow, as long as you continue to trim the roots. Make no mistake, tho, any plant you trim like that will go into shock. They do recover, so don't fret.
