Has Anyone Attempted The 6 Hr 40 Min On/ 12 Hr Off Schedule?

I would like to know of any of the growers here have attempted this light schedule. It gives the plants a quicker following time. After reading about this on another thread it seems that several growers have attempted this with quick flowering times & have received great results.

According to the factual information about this schedule is that you will gain 5 hrs 20 mins a day using this particular schedule so that would mean that every actual 7 days of flowering is like 9 days for the plants. That means you can pull an 8wk strain 16 days early with next to no difference. A 30-40% increase in yield was also shown.

So I would assume that using this in the likes of AERO, Flood & Drain or Ebb & Flow would make the end user finish a lot quicker than the norm. It also gives the grower the ability to fluctuate your times so the electric company does not see the same set electricity schedule of the normal 12 on/12 off cycle.

To make this work effectively the end grower will definitely need CO2, an intermatic timer (with 18 programable events) & a calendar to map out the schedule.

Here is the recommended schedule Per Advanced Nutrients:

1 ON Sun 12:00pm
1 OFF Sun 6:40pm

2 ON Mon 6:40am
2 OFF Mon 1:20pm

3 ON Tue 1:20am
3 OFF Tue 8:00am

4 ON Tue 8:00pm
4 OFF Wed 2:40am

5 ON Wed 2:40pm
5 OFF Wed 9:20pm

6 ON Thu 9:20am
6 OFF Thu 4:00pm

7 ON Fri 4:00am
7 OFF Fri 10:40am

8 ON Fri 10:40pm
8 OFF Sat 5:20am

9 ON Sat 5:20pm
9 OFF Sun 12:00am

I would like to hear from the sophisticated grower what he or she thinks about this. Looking forward to all replies & PLEASE NO NEGATIVE ENERGY!!

I have heard/read about this before on another site, but just thought - maybe someday.

I went to the Advanced Nutrients site but didn't find any info about this, but their site was loading so slowly I couldn't take it any longer. I can't help it, I'm used to speed...

One of these timers came with both of my Agro Star 400w systems and here I've only ever used it for turning on and off everyday.

It has a bunch of programmable times and everytime I restart my grow I have to download the directions from their website, cause it is so confusing to set. The directions make it seem simple, but what a pain in the butt. I spend like 15mins trying to bypass the weekdays to get were you can just it set for the on/off function.

With that said, I would'nt mind finishing up my current grow 2 weeks sooner so (and evade the dreaded elec co); I'm willing to give this experiment a try!

Luckily, I just starting flowering 4 days ago; so it should still be a good test. I'll keep you posted.

BTW - here's the directions for my timer, I know it seems simple; but it's not...

Thanks for the input white widow. I read about this on icmag. It works just as a normal light cycle. I cant wait to see howyour grow turns out using this. This will be the future for growers. no spikes, different lighting times. Excellent. I believe the reason why your computer is so slow on advanced nutrients is because I believe they shut down the AN forums section. Anyway keep us posted on the 18hr schedule grow. Also the beautiful thing about this is that you wont get any hermies once your environment is kept correct. :peace: The same principles as 12/12

You bet! I love trying new things...

There is a kink in this armor though - the problem here is that I only have 8 on/off setting

Any suggestions SouthfloridaSean?

I surfed over to IC and that is where I read about it too. But there is no modification for only 8 settings.

And I will try the Advanced Nutrients website again in the morning, maybe there will be a way to tweak this thing there.

They have the intermatic ones that 18 settings. Try & google it. Are you using 120 or 240v? Im not sure if they make them for 240v.

Hey Sean, I see you are still up too... I am waiting for my babies' light cycle to end so I can program that damn timer...lol

It looks I should be able to get it to work. I found the post on IC where I first saw this concept of light manipulation mentioned and it is from the book - How to Supercharge your Garden.

The schedule given is only for 5 days though, odd right? But it ends up covering the whole week???

Day 1 - Sunday, 6:00am til Monday, 3:36am
Day 2 - Monday, 3:36pm til Tuesday, 1:12pm
Day 3 - Wednesday, 1:12am til Wednesday, 10:48pm
Day 4 - Thursday, 10:48am til Friday 8:24am
Day 5 - Friday, 8:24pm til Saturday 6:00pm

So I am going to start it in about 30mins. I'm assuming this is the night schedule - But tell me, do you think the times listed are for the dark periods?

Gotta go back to IC for more info...brb

Okay, my baby girls are sleeping and I'm sleepy too. Way too tried to figure out this darn timer right now, so it's off to bed for me.

But here's that other info from IC Mag...
WWW

The only photoperiod manipulation from years of experiments that offered discernible improvements was the following photoperiod adjustment made for 1 or 2 calendar weeks at the point of maximum flowering rate: Daylength of 21 hours, 36 minutes with a dark period of 12 hours. To accomplish this, you need a 7 day, 24 hour digital timer. During a 7 day calendar week on Earth, the "sun" only cycles 5 times. This permits easily switching back to the regular 12/12 at your discretion. You may want to only alter during peak flower production to stimulate the plant's metabolism. Using this photoperiod throughout the flowering cycle will cause this:

A variety that takes 49 days of 12/12 to mature, won't see 49 - 12 hour dark periods under
21:36/12 until almost 10 calendar weeks have passed.

The total increase in light energy is almost 80%, which will produce larger yields, if all of your other enviromental conditions are kept optimal.

The total increase in flowering period is only 40%, half the potential room for improvement. This means you don't have to be perfect to win out.

Selective application of the 21:36/12 photperiod for only 1 or 2 weeks extends the wait only 2 to 4 Earth days, which makes up the missing 2 complete day and night cycles each week on Planet Ito. This permits the additional light energy to be provided without purchasing additional equipment or overloading existing circuits, which maximizes the existing system's capabilities. The main advantage is that matched with co2 and optimal nutrition, the plants metabolism will increase dramatically. I have only successfully tested this photoperiod for two weeks. The potential for a net increase of 40% over the entire cycle (80% increase in light energy vs. 40% longer wait) is worthwhile. Don't be afraid!

Day 1 - Sunday, 6:00am til Monday, 3:36am
Day 2 - Monday, 3:36pm til Tuesday, 1:12pm
Day 3 - Wednesday, 1:12am til Wednesday, 10:48pm
Day 4 - Thursday, 10:48am til Friday 8:24am
Day 5 - Friday, 8:24pm til Saturday 6:00pm

" Light Cycles

The dark cycle is very important to plants. Respiration (this is when plants are making energy from sugar to oxygen) Continues in dark but at a much slower pace, almost independent of available oxygen because the leaves are not making oxygen in the dark.

In the dark there is a shift from leaf production to root production as the leaves transfer excess energy down to the branches and roots. Therefore, some dark time allows for better root structures. The "Experimental Root Growth 10 Days After Cutting" graph on page 33 shows that giving plants a 24-hour light cycle is not the way to supercharge growth"

This is from "How to supercharge your garden"

This is a 21 hour time period. Wow, thats tons of light as well. So this will cut time by how much exactly? It probably gives almost an extra day per cycle right? Let me know.
