Harvesting & Freezing

Freezing fresh bud?

I was pondering, could I harvest my buds & trim them. Then throw them in a rubber maid container, then put them in a freezer and dry them on a later date (no more then two weeks)?

You probably are not going to want to do this man. I have only seen already dried bud frozen, and I try to avoid doing that because when you freeze the buds the trichomes become incredibly brittle and you end up losing quite a bit and the bud loses out a little bit asthetically. But along with that I dont think it would be a great idea just because of the large amount of moisture that is still in the bud would expand when frozen and im not sure of the damage that would do to the bud. Again, Im not sure about the remaining moisture expanding and being an issue, I just thought that could potentially cause issues. But I am certain of the trichomes becoming brittle. If you do decide to freeze it, make sure to put them somewhere where they will not move at all, and most importantly make sure to only handle them when completely necessary.

ya id put em in a big container at the bottem of the freezer till im ready, n when i am like 24 hr before trimming il gently remove the the container open the lid n let the buds warm up first before handleing them

Creative idea. Idk though man, maybe trim up a small amount and toss them in and do the rest the normal way to compare the results? Wouldn't want to see all your hard work go to waste now that you've harvested, and I'm pretty positive you'd regret it if you did that to all your bud.

why the aversion to drying it properly from the start? i would be terrified of mu entire harvest going to mold because i didnt dry it right away

Freezing is the first step in the bubble bags method of making hash. Its a bad idea to freeze it for any amount of time, straight away dry it by making a dry box or hang them somewhere so the moisture can come out of the plant. Its ultra important to dry it properly or you risk your entire crop.

Well fellas, due to the unfortunate scheduling of a work trip I'll be leaving my bud 3 days after harvesting it. My plan is to hang dry it and hopefully start the jar process, but when it's time to leave I'll stick the jars in the refrigerator. I'll be back 4 days later when I will then continue the normal jar process.

I'll post back with results. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

WHy dont you just cut your plants at their bases, hang them up for a week, then trim and smoke when you get back.. Booyah

A week is perfect for a plant that is not hacked up. It dries slowly and will be pretty as hell when you return.

Good point tommy, I'll give it a try. If they get too dry after 3 days they're going in the fridge. I'm worried that they'll dry pretty quick since they're relatively small buds (auto-flower blueberry).

Thanks for the tip!
