Harvest right freeze dryer

Going to grab a small harvest right home freeze dryer tomorrow, does anyone have any good insight as far as settings and timing goes?

I use to leave my trays at the default dry, but that is like 125f. So this past grow I lowered the dry cycle to 65f and seem to keep them a bit more spongy in squish response and better flavour. if your tray is packed I would say 20hrs at least, but might be less because of your smaller unit.

For sure go with the non oil pump. My family just didn’t want to deal with changing the oil after each use. My mom frequents the Harvest Right boards and people during the Pandemic couldn’t get ahold of the oil. Plus again you don’t need to change anything. Only downside was that had to shell out another $1500cnd back then for it

So hit a snag, I've got a leak coming from somewhere. Checked out al my fittings and made sure they were tight, cleaned the chamber seal and still only pulling 850, and need to be at 500. I guess next step is to pull the covets off and check inside the cover. Anybody else have this issue?

Is oil clean? (if using oil pump)
what was in machine when it failed? or you were just testing?

The plexi glass on the handle has a hair line fracture. Thinking it was because the top latch was loose and it pulled uneven vac. Sent them an email yesterday at about 430 ao hopefully I'll hear back toda.

Just a thought might be dumb, but have you thought about modifying it somehow so the nugs dry slower in there?
Maybe even wrap them in something semi permeable like a few paper bags? It would atleast give you a bigger window to figure out how you like their moisture content to be.

Or just dry cold and slow as possible, i thought that was the point of a freeze dryer. Suprised to see that one dude talking about 65f!

That's just changing settings, not really modifying it. I don't run the full cycles because it'll dry the shit out of it as I learned the first cycle

Keep in mind, these guys are trying to sell you something but I've read else where that harvest rights home and pharmaceutical driers dont produce the best results when drying flower.

Freeze drying, aka the lyophilization process, preserves more cannabinoids than any other dry and cure method. Buds are perfectly preserved with ZERO shrinkage. In order to achieve this desired result we must understand that there are 3 key components to the freeze-dry process that are necessary to optimize the process:

1.) The time that we hold the freeze dryer at each stage of its multi-step recipe.
2.) The temperature controlled at each stage of the recipe for desired length at each stage.
3.) The vacuum pressure, or militor reading, is controlled throughout the entire process. This will require a bleeder valve retrofit to your freeze dryer. (Harvest Right has the only freeze dryer models we currently endorse.)

The third point is extremely important to understand when it comes to how we are able to preserve terpenes. Under deep vacuum below 500 militor, terpenes become volatile. This is why it is not possible to freeze dry cannabis or hemp buds/flowers with a Pharmaceutical or a Home unit of brands we utilize/distribute like Harvest Right, as well as because points 1) and 2) are not able to be managed. Home and pharmaceutical models are great for Live Kief and Bubble Hash applications, but not for buds or flowers.

Air Dry the Bud. Freeze Dry hash and snacks.

Freeze dryers (I have a harvest right pharma model) seem to be pretty finicky I cannot help but feel that running full harvest through it is just doing too much.

Works great with hash though. Keeps it a nice blond color and preserves taste. The hash is way less material, and you want it bone dry so no worries when it comes to over doing it.

I'm thinking thats gonna be my main use, but I is super convenient being able to toss a few in and 24 hours later it's good to go. On the other hand not quite the same, close but a little different. So I'm gonna do a mix, some to hang and some to the dryer.
