Harvest Drying questions

I see a lot of people recommend when drying to keep it dark while
the bud is drying.

I understand light and heat degrades THC.
Obviously I don't want to dry anything under the glare of any light.

How important is complete darkness?
How much light is bad? I asked in another thread about drying in the flower room.
The buds will not get direct light (due to sectioning)but it's still bright enough to read.
While drying there will be light for 12 hours still since the flower room will still be a working room.
I just can't see it affecting quality or taste but I have no experience to base that off of and haven't found any reading material to say it will either.
Besides light the room conditions are ideal for drying anyway.

If doing this in another room was an option I wouldn't be wasting space here asking..

...your good man, I've done this over and over again....and I've dried in complete darkness....all the same. I would not run a dehumidifier, nor a fan...and like you said, I wouldn't let your yield get any direct light.

I was concerned the cardboard would dry it out too quick. I am thinking about using some panel foam
around the setup to help keep some light off. Just as long as it doesn't kill the air flow..
Thanks Trichlone fiend, I don't play on running the dehumidifier unless the RH gets really high and only to bring it down some.

...my method= let hang dry , without dehumidifer or fan for 3 days , day 4 put into mason jars overnight with lid shut....then, remove the lids of the mason jars for 24 hours.

...after all this is done, leave the lids on the jars, but you'll need to burb them daily. ( I give'em a 10-15 minute burb daily)...hope that helps ya some. Good luck

well the room has ac and fans going but this corner should be sheltered enough from airflow.
temps are kept in the 70's with rh of 50-60%. Besides that my method will be the same as yours.
thanks I need all I can get

Everything is working out just well.
What little light the corner I set up in my flower room gets, doesn't affect the quality of the finished product :D
I only wish I had more room but that's a good problem to have..

I've hear of a lot of people just clipping them down and hanging them on a string by itself, but I don't know which way I should do mine, each time I harvested I used a different method and each time It was still too damp to smoke and kept going out when lit, anyone that can post there methods would be fantastic, pictures would be a plus too. I've tried the black grass clipping bags that people put there....cut grass in, and hung the entire plant upside down to let the THC flow to the top of the plant. and that worked alright but It was still damp even after a week and a half! than I tried the brown paper bag method of clipping each individual branch off and hanging them upside down on a string with the brown paper bag around them.....still went out whenever i tried smoking it. and each time I hung them upside down for at least a week or 2 in a dark spot like a closet, and than put them In a glass jar and let it cure until i ran out of bud. It got a little more dry the longer I let it cure, but I don't know i feel like there has got to be a better way to get it to turn out like the buds you buy from your local dealer.

Citystars1117: I stop watering 4 days before I go dark (which I recently did for 48 hours).
When I emptied the 5 gallon container my BlueMystic sat in (Soil); said soil when disposed of came out drier then a 90 year old vag.
As it pertained to the BlueMystic in the Aerogarden, I stopped feeding Water 4 days before as well. *When I harvested, the AG Reservoir was DRY as were the majority of roots. *

Both were cut at the stem and hung for 3 days.
Yesterday I pulled out a branch at a time and took off all the foliage, leaving the buds by themselves.

1.) Get your plants as dry as they can be before you prepare to harvest (helps speed up the drying process) *from what I've read and discussed with others*
2.) If you are going to hang them full, I suggest that a few days after hanging them, begin to snip off each branch and clean each one up nicely.

One week once they are all hanging separately, check the stems. When bent; do they snap? no.. dry longer..

Once they snap, move the buds into your Mason jars and begin your cure.

Hope that helped abit. I totally feel for you.. I've been had with Damp Herb in the past.. HATE IT with a passion!

Surprised this is even asked about with the sticky in this section. Regardless, I am forced to dry in a damp basement, but my tent is always very dry (ventilation is good, etc), so I dried 7 WW bitches hung from the top of the tent w/ lights off, but fan on (no scent at ALL from the monstrous carbon filter) for a week.. until the bigger stems snapped when bent. Also, I did 36 hours of complete dark / dry prior. Everything turned out perfect. Next time, I may try a cardboard wardrobe box, ala U-Haul, (pricy, but PERFECT size) with a 6" duct attached so I can hook it into my tent and ventilate it with the area fan. That'll help the tent and the box.
