Hard water, 350 ppm

I recently got a TDS meter and its reading 350-360. Its well water. I know about RO systems but im wondering why hard water is a problem. I tried doing a search but couldnt find anything. Where can i find a good read on this?

350ppm is nothing. You'd get that with well water. 1800ppm is different altogether. Try looking up subcool or latewood on their thoughts of RO and hard water problems. Calcium is a good part of using tap or well water, as this must be added to RO or you WILL get rust spots.

I've always heard anything above 300 ppm is not good for marijuana growing. I have a well too. Get an r.o. device and start your ppm at around 10. Then you can add nutes with better results. And yes, if you use r.o. water, cal/mag 5-10 ml per gallon will be needed......

I agree that safe is better than sorry. I will also say that I've used tap water at 380ppm with no negative results as well. Situations are always different, best to plan and act accordingly...

in a perfect world you can control every aspect of what your plant eats. With hard water, you may have an excess of calcium or other chem which could combine and create problems with your chemicals you are feeding with. Fallout is the biggest problem with unwanted chems.

Another wards, you don't know what comprises the 350 ppm and it can overload too much of one or more elements, causing lockout, salt build up, and throw everything out of whack.

Here in the UK we can get a water-report on-line from the local water company. It details everything in the water.

There is one from every municipality in the united states as well, these people just can't google. Hard water is bad because 1800ppm will kill a seedling.

i can google, and i have a private well, so i wont be able to find that information on google. I was just asking for general info on hard water because i couldnt find it with the search tool.

The only options are have it tested, get an RO machine or look into making your own 'solar-still' type thing (sheet of glass as a condensor etc)

p.s. If I had 1800 ppm tapwater, I would probably be panning it for diamonds!
