I finally get to start my grow!!!

Alright, I have been waiting for my beans and they haven’t made it so instead of waiting I got some free seeds from a buddy. I got one of each of the following strains: Da Purps, Romulan and Dutch Treat. It should be a good grow to learn on (first grow).

Grow Technique: DWC Drip, Scrog with 1 inch chicken wire

Area: 8 square feet 2x4x10

Lighting: 1,000W MH/HPS when on 12/12 lights on at 7pm and off at 7am.

Ventilation: 6” 250 cfm intake fan pulling cooler air from attic, Exhaust with 6" fan (270 cfm, CAN Filter 33 13" diameter. I have a tempstat switch that activates both fans set at 73 degrees with a +/- 2.5 degrees.

Reservoir/drip setup: 30 gallon reservoir with 10 gallons water with 4 gph drip emitters dripping into 3 inch net cups with hydroton and peat pellets for 15 minutes every 2 hours.

Nutrients/ph: Flora Nova Grow,Bloom PH up and down by General Hydroponics, ppm stick and ph stick.

The beans just popped today, I am gonna veg long enough to microsex the plants, then clone. Next Pics will be posted on 3/4/08. Comments ARE definetly welcome!!:mrgreen:

yeah...that was pretty intense. especially because people use scrog for fewer plants to maximize space (i thought)

Here is some news. I used peat pellets and I think its really throwing my ppm out of whack cuz my local water is ~130 but now after a day it is way up! Average reading ~500. Almost all plants have cotyledons and the Purple has it's first set of "real" leaves. ph ~5.8. I read in a few places of contradicting info on other threads in refernce to the Peat Pucks. Some say they suck, some say theyre good, some say take the netting off and some say not to take the netting off. I have a filter on my pump and all seems well. But I went ahead and took netting off of three of the five plants I have. I think I might try to scrounge up some rockwool or at least transplant the ones without a net. My Dutch Treat still isnt showing any cotyledons so I might just take her out and put in another Headband seedling that has popped cotyledons and ready to go. Well thats all for now...

The ppm has went down to ~430 and the PH is still steady at ~5.8. I am changing the light time to 20/4 so I can gain some root growth. I am gonna try to post pics every other day. Sorry theyre not the greatest but here we go with the first series:

This is the first of two Romulan seedlings I have. It has stretched the most of all the plants.

This is a Headband strain and seems to be doing good.

This Da Purps strain. This one is acting wierd. It was the first to get it's "real' set of leaves yet, it is the shortest of all that have them. I assuming cuz it's strong on the Indica side.

This is the second of two Romulan seedlings I have. The cotyledons are still stuck together.

And finally, Dutch Treat. I REALLY hope this one is Female I want this one and Da Purps to be female the most but if not both I really want this one. She has been slow to break through the soil but she finally has. I almost put another Headband seedling in her place. I had it as back up but, it looks I will be able to get this one going after all.

Alright it's been a couple days so I fugure I will put some stuff up even though it is kinda goin slow, I wanna totally cover it. First I wanna start off with a full diagram of my setup so everyone knows what I am working with. I have posted similar diagrams in other threads but this is my thread so I figure it needs to be here. After that I will go into the plant pics and comments.

The Full Closet Diagram:

Okay on with the babies, First I am going to go in the order I always go in. Romulan 1 of 2 is looking stupendous - very stretchy showing the Sativa dominance nice thick leaves and startin to see little fuzz on her even though it's kinda hard to see on this pic.

Next is the ole Headband. She is coming along smoothly nothin extaordinary. She has a very strong and straight looking stem on her and a little fuzz as well.

And now my favorite so far, short and stout little plant, Da Purps. This plant definetly showing her Indica dominance. With her very thick, fuzzy blades and lamina - I am very hopeful of a girl with this one.

Alright I think I am in need of some advice on this one. I can't really tell if this one is just breaking out the first "real" leaves when I took this shot or if this one is dry as all hell or if it is just a deformity. I know it's hard to see with my camera but my macro shot kinda sux. Remember from a few days ago this is the one that had the cotyledons stuck together. Either way, I am sure the dry weather is gettin to them as I was at 23% humidity. I soaked a big bath towel just enough so it wasnt drippin and hung it on a coat hanger rod in the closet. It is now at 38% in the time I began this update. Anyones thoughts?

And last but definetly not least, Dutch Treat. The stem is lookin much stronger from a few days ago and is fully upright and with full "real" leaves. This one is exceptionally fuzzy as well. Dutch Treat, Da Purps and Romulan1 are my current favs of the five and lookin great. I am most hopeful of these being female.

2 indica dominat and 1 sativa dominant - sounds like a good combo to me. Please comment or advise - please! I know the camera shots suck but does anyone know whats up with that Romulan 2?

p.s. i have no experience with scrog, but isn't the net suppose to be at least 2"
Thats all they had at the farm supply store here. I think after the initial stem makes it through the screen I am gonna zip tie loosely to the screen instead of weaving back under. I dunno I am sure I will do both. I'm sure I can make it work.

that's a cool set up friend, SCROG is an awesome thing, I am so interested in tryin it, won,t be for the next couple of grows but it will be in the works for this summer. you have a very clean set up mostly , do you think that 5 in a 4 foot area could be a bit tight?, i hear a well trained plant can take up some good space, or are you just lettin them grow strait up without any traing?

I plan on letting them grow 2 inches then tieing them down looseley to the screen and weaving etc. I am sure I will have to possibly cut the screen in some places but overall I will be training with zip ties mostly. And I should have some pics up tonite sometime. Thanks for the compliment on the setup, I have been watchin yours as well pretty sweet, I plan on going vertical possibly next couple grows.

okay fuzzz Im here...Im excited for you...I know you have been itching to get going....hummm didnt know people did peat pellets and hydro systems..did you read that somewhere or is that your own experiment?
I think you will find that going along the screen loosely like you have mentioned will be easiest....Ill be watchin!!

I actually did look around a bit first. I changed my water res, set the ppm with grow at 350. PH is at 5.7 so knowing that I am not to worried about any peat in the res - I got a pretty good filter. Thanks for stoppin by.

And sorry to everybody that IS watchin... no pics tonite. I will post some as soon as The second nodes pop out. They are startin to show on Da Purps and Romulan1. Once they really pop I will be postin them. I am really hopin they take off now this week. Last week I was on straight tap water with 160 ppm for a week so, I am assuming things will take off this week. I will let ya all know! Thanks everyone for comin by! :blsmoke:

and by the way i got my date mixed up on this title ...as you can see - derrrrrrrrrrr - smokin

Well I peeked in on them just now and Romulan 2 had keeled over and died. It never really made it. It was the funky one with the deformed leaves. I took Da Purps and put her in the plant site and taped black plastic over the empty hole wher Da Purps use to be. All plants have popped there second set of nodes but havent quite taken off. I will be checkin in on em again tonite, possibly posting some pics. They all now have 2 sqr ft of space though now. Hopefully no more die before I can micro sex them.

I just realized on my last actual update I forgot to mention I changed my water and adjusted my nute level. I am at 10 gallons with 320 ppm this week. Keepin the ph round 6.0. I went from 20/4 to 18/6 and I am really hopin they take off this week.

As I said in the previous post, the second romulan plant is no longer with us. I found her all shriveled up and keeled over this afternoon. As for all the other plants they are all lookin good and shootin there second sets of nodes. Dutch Treat (pictured at the bottom) is beginning to look a tinge of yellow on the inner sinuses of the blades? Or is it just seem that way cuz I am seeing a contrasting tinge of purple on the outer portions? I dunno someone please help with that one and anything that seems off for that matter.
Here they are:

Romulan

Headband

Da Purps

Da Purps again (cuz she so pretty)

Dutch Treat

well dude IMHO I think they are lookin good , i wouldn't panic rite away, I would give them a few days and keep a close eye on them, I really don,t see anything wrong with them as of now. I lost 8 in the process of stickin them in the box they don,t all make it unfortunately, but better the weak die off now then later.

nice lookin babies man.

Thanks alot man, I am almost certain Da Purps is gonna be a real strong plant - she is really lookin healthy. I am really hopin Da Purps and Dutch Treat make it through mostly. I will then be microsexing in a couple weeks hopefully then cloning.
