Hanging lights, filter and fan from the ceiling

I'm planning a grow without a tent and need some advice
Can I "simply" drill into a ceiling joist, insert a screw hook and hang?
Or is it better to nail a 2x2 along the ceiling joists from wall to wall, insert hooks into the 2x2 and then hang from there?
I'll be hanging 3 euro reflectors, a 6" filter and 6" fan

Either way you will have "holes" in the drywall to repair in the future if you ever disassemble your grow room. Seems to me that just using your joists is easiest HOWEVER using your joists only also means you only have attachment points every 16" whereas with the 2X2 you have total available hanging spots. That's really the only difference.

it depends on if the ceiling rafters are in the right place for placement of your hoods. Since you have 3 hoods your hanging more then likely best option is the 2x2 idea you have.

If its an upstairs room you could do what I did.

I measured where I wanted my reflector to sit and then predrilled a couple of holes that I could find once in my loft area.

If you go into a joist you'll know it straight away.

Then if not you can fit a cross section 2x2 between the joists in the loft side to screw your hooks into.

I'm gonna go with something like the attached photo
3 2x2's evenly spaced, from wall to wall

i've figured out where i want to hang everything. i'm just wondering about the actual construction of it ie finding a joist, drilling into it and attaching the 2x2's safely in a way that allows them to be taken down easily too..

regarding the holes can i just fill em up with putty or something similar?
