handling heat in the attic

building a growroom in the attic in the next few weeks, and i have a few questions about the heat im gonna be surely facing....

my house is old, so it was built for no ac... instead we have an attic fan that sucks air into the house and blows into the attic; 3/4 walls in the attic have a large grate for ventilation of the huge fan's exhaust, so it helps keep the temps lower than they would normally be in the attic....

was thinking about building the growroom above the living room, seeing as thats the only place we have an ac for now...
would putting an air intake in the floor of the grow, (to pull cool ac air in) be a good idea?? or is there something flawed with that placement??

i was thinking the same thing. i think it can be done. the more the room is sealed the better so the exhaust will pull all the air from the living room and none from the attic.
its definately worth looking into. a cooltube of course would help alot.
if you could build the room a little bigger than you planned, and get one of them portable air conditioners and vent it outside. as long as you have the electric capacity in your attic.

i think as long as there is constant airflow or you install a backdraft damper so air doesnt waft out into the living room you should be good...i agree with above poster about sealing the room completly..maybe do a wrap of panda over foam insulation board to keep the room insulated for easier control...also..is a portable a.c. unit completly out of the question.....

If you strategically add an a/c to cool your house and have it close to that fan you have, that way, you might lose a little bit more money in hydro but will have a/c in your house and also cool air going into your attic through the fan. Rather than have the a/c in the attic and only cooling the room but not your house. Maybe add an inline fan at the end of the duct in your attic, that way, airflow will be significantly increased. Not the only solution, but that is probably what I would do in your situation.

so it will work... sweet... im gonna have a cooltube; but i am trying to avoid the ac.... this is a co-op grow... dont think my financier will want to flop out an extra $3-400 on an ac; he's spending enough as it is... it may be inevitable in the long run though... just trying to plan to do without one... with all of the airflow in the attic, im hoping to be able to keep it under control with just my ventilation

Yea Im dealing with the same issue. Im growing hydro and supposedly if you keep the roots cool it keeps the whole plant cool. So I bought a water chiller. I havent hooked it up yet but I will be tonight or tomorrow and then I can hopefully tell a difference and maybe that could be something you could look at.
