halogens

are halogens any good for growing?

my friend used 2 halogens to grow roughly 8 plants...they looked really good (unfortunately he had to get rid of them). I am thinking about growing some in my closet, and was wondering if they were good to grow with.

thanks,

i wouldnt personally due to the amount of heat they throw and amount of electricity used . Go with cfls over halogens

depends on what you are willing to spend I am not rich so i use a mixture of 26 and 42 watters. I do see they have some big ones online around 200 watts apiece. The 26 watt cfl bulbs can be found anywhere I get mine at wal-mart and pay 7.44 for a 3 pack and 42 watt bulbs are $9 a piece the 200 watter I'm sure is big bucks not sure what it costs but I'm sure they are not cheap

right after i replied i noticed CFLs were in my kitchens ceiling fan lights, so ima go jack em haha

thanks for the replies

This is a great chart to show the color temperature in degrees Kelvin which essentially shows you which lights produce the most usable light for your plants. For vegging shoot for 5500K to 6500K. Many CFLs have a color temp rating on or near the base of the light.
