Guess Who's Back...

...back again, Fuzzy's back, tell a friend...

Hey guys! Here I am to grow again, but this time I'm doing things way different. My first grow is linked in my sig and was not well planned out, this time things are different. For those of you who are wondering where I went, let's just say shit life circumstances, law not not included. The seeds are from when my last grow produced a hermie, but this is mostly a test of my new LED grow-light vs my Sunshine System 150wt HPS I used for the last grow, so genetics aren't my priority and my smoke from my last grow was quite nice.

Grow Room Specs:

  • Growlab60 2'x5'3"x2'
  • Kessil H150 35wt high intensity LED grow-light in purple
  • 3gal DIY bubble-ponic using clay ball substrate+rockwool

Plant Nutrition:
General Hydroponics brand-
  • MaxiGro 10-5-14
  • MaxiBloom 4-15-14

Seeds Started: Aug 18th
Seeds Germinated: 3
Seeds Sprouted: 1

So I started three seeds in pre-soaked rockwool in my Aerograden, out of which one sprouted and got transplanted to a DIYed 3gal bubble-ponic system. I didn't use any nutrients in the Aerogarden when germinating. Once my little sprout was transplanted I added 1.5tp of MaxiGro, with the recommended dosage being 1-2tp per gallon. Currently my light is 8" above my little sprout and on a 20/4 light schedule.

Should be an interesting grow, haven't seen too many people using the Kessils. Very interested in this.

Just a more detailed breakdown of exactly what nutrients I'll be using for my little plant+the feeding schedule. My hydro store guy always gives me some free samples, so I tend to mix and match brands.

::For Veg::

1-3days=1.5tp-> 3gal water; 4-7days=4.5tp->3gal water; week 2-4=6tp-> 3gal water

::For Flower::

::Nutrient Up-Take Solution

Mad Farmer’s N.U.T.S. is an hydroponic additive that is compatible with ALL other nutrients. The Mad Farmer’s N.U.T.S. can be applied as a foliar spray and / or used in conjunction with regular feeding schedules. N.U.T.S. is an organic, cold water extracted fulvic acid derived from humic shale. Fulvic acid acts to naturally chelate nutrients and has a high rate of cation exchange due to its low atomic weight. These properties result in higher nutrient uptake as well as increased vitality. Mad Farmer is a line of plant enhancements, additives and nutrient controls formulated specifically for hydroponics with food grade ingredients and no dyes.

My plant has grown so much in just a day! This morning I changed the water in the reservoir since the water was bright red from the clay balls. I have now figured out that you are probably meant to rinse them before using them in your system, but the package was in german or something so...

EDIT::
Did some research and since the clay balls are pH neutral, it just colors the water but doesn't alter your water chemistry. Therefore rinsing is unnecessary unless you care if your res water is red. I did. I'm a little OCD with superficial aesthetics >_>

So far everything still going well, the second set leaves are coming in nicely and I don't see any deformities. They look super furry so I'm really psyched to see how this little plant turns out. There's still no stretch to the plant so it's staying nice and bushy.

EDIT::
After really studying my plant in the sunlight, I felt that something in my water chemistry might be off due to my new growth being a tad yellow tinged. Anyhoo, after rooting about I found my pH kit and found that my pH was WAY too high (7.0), so now it's adjusted down to 5.5 and everything should sort itself out by tonight :)

The second pic is my little planty under natural sunlight, very green and happy little plant.:weed:

So I remembered I had some panda paper left over from my last grow and I figured that since you really can't have too much light or reflection, my plant could use a reflector collar

It's so bright my poor cam can't even handle it..

Hey Fuzzbutter,

Your Kessil is a 35 watts? Do you know how much the actual watt draw is? 35 watts doesn't seem like enough.

I know this wasn't directed to me, but check out Grumpy Old Dreamer, he uses kessils as well and pulls over 1gpw doing a mini scrog for each plant.

Honestly no idea, but my plant is loving it. I'm not so well versed in the tech side of LEDs and honestly I only nabbed the Kessil originally because my hydro guy gave me a deal on it for writing up a grow review of it for him. In the whole LED craze, I've started going by what I see works vs. what I'm told should or shouldn't work. And as the other guy said, check out Grump Old Dreamer.

So I had to go home for a week to say hi to the family, I was gone for 8 days and left my plant in the care of a very close friend. Right before I left I did a water change and added nutrients. The system I have is essentially self sufficient, I had my friend check the pH three times while I was gone, but that was as far as his care taking had to go because the water always tested fine. Skype between phones and computers is amazing, I got to see my plant and how it was doing while I was gone...freaking awesome. This plant literally exploded, I've never seen such a compact, branched plant with no training...

So as of yesterday my plant hit the 1 month mark. I've decided to extend veg at least another 2 weeks if not another month and I've also decided to scrog this grow. I got fert water on the leaves so they are a little spotty, but otherwise the plant is growing strong. At this point it's been topped twice and I habitually prune to encourage growth. I'm also 95% sure this is a female as I can just barely see what appear to be female pre-flowers on some of the branch joints.

My little plant is bushing out amazingly well and growing strong under my single Kessil 36wt light, it's working out perfectly with my grow space :D It's growing so fast that by the time I get around to posting pics it's normally increased growth by at least 25%

This is my one problem area of the plant, when topped it, the right new cola is growing very slowly due to deformed leaves. I've since pruned them to encourage new, healthy leaf growth.

Accidental Clone: I didn't notice, but a section of a branch was tied down too tight and separated from the main plant, oh well, Now I have a little clone since I know I have a female.
IMG_3788.jpgIMG_3790.jpg

My big girl, took 2.5 wks for her to show, I had started to worry I had a male, but nope! I switched to 12/12 Oct 8th.

Now you may see that I changed lights. Well, I noticed my Kessil was starting to flicker and I felt maybe at the time that was why my plant wasn't showing sex for me, so I changed out the Kessil for my old 150wt HPS which is a pain because it's so hot >_<. Anyhoo, my light is still under warranty so Kessil is going to send me a new one and I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt as I did purchase my store's demo light. I really like the Kessil and for stealth growing I think they are some of the best there is for a good price, my plant certainly thrived under it :D

EDIT:
So I realized I never wrote how I got my plant to bush out so well. I topped it 2-4 times depending on the section over the course of a 7 week extended veg as well as super pruning on a regular basis. Currently I'm LSTing her with paper clips since they hold themselves down by clipping under the lid.

any updates? I am using a blackstar 240 with good results...but looking to make the switch to kessil for a more fruitful scrog. Thanks Fuzz

OMG, life definitely threw me a fast ball. Got robbed and a whole bunch of crap, having to move and what not, hence why my grow journal kinda died. Anyhoo, my plant was murdered by an ex boyfriend which is of course why they're my ex. It was horrible...it had ONE more month...ONE...and the fucker WAY over nuted it while I was gone for a few days visiting family and it was very dead when I came home...Like we're talking he used 10 tablespoons of nutes for 2 gal of water when I told him not to even touch it. Luckily, I had taken my little accidental clone so all was not lost...just 8 months of tender loving care is all.

I also want to murder my hydro shop. I couldn't find my damn receipt for my light and they used a basic computer system for a register so I asked if they could just print me a new one, but the owner wasn't around and the worker was retarded and couldn't figure it out so they said they'd return it for me since they'd only had one in the whole store and I bought it. So I waited for MONTHS, constantly calling to check up on what was going on and they FINALLY called me back to tell me they were having issues with their distributor (not Kessil directly) and that they'd give me store credit. Awesome...because of course I don't want a new fucking light, when I'd made sure to tell them how much I wanted a replacement kessil. Fast forward and three months after this bullshit I decide to go ahead and actually order an upgrade to the Kessil H350 since I had loved my 150 so much and had already wanted to upgrade so I only had to pay the difference for it. I also switched to the magenta instead of purple after having written kessil directly regarding the differences in the wavelengths per color and which is best for flowering plants. I figure I can nab a blue only Kessil 150 for veg with the magenta and that will make it into essentially a purple spectrum.

Moving on, things are doing well with the clone, pics will come later. The fucker is over 4' tall! I can't get it to stop growing! It's pretty much COMPLETELY filled out my growlab in both height and width. It's a good thing I got my new Kessil when I did because the plant was growing into my light and the light was as high as it could possibly go, now at least with the LED I'm not so worried about my place burning down LOL, but seriously, I was getting pretty concerned about that. But at this point it's only got another month to go, but Im a bit upset as it looks like I'll be getting popcorn bud off the plant >_< Mostly I think due to insufficient light, but I have a whole other month to see if it will fill out, I hope it does.
