Growing under led Flood lights in 2016

The no name COBs in these lights are advertised at 80-90lm/watt.

You'd be better off with HPS or branded chips.

Having said that they would grow well, just not as efficient as alternatives.
 
They should work well, most cobs are sourced from china assembled back home, dont be put off by low prices, a cob is a cob is a cob. The high price does not = high quality It usually = high Profit :hump:
 
I have bought an LED floodlight from homedepot for side lighting, on a stand, 75 watts each spot of 75 watts for the 2 spots, not sure, glad I bought them. If I have to do some renos I ll have some nice work lights too lol They don't run that hot.

Can't say I agree with this.

Sure price does not always correlate with quality but "a cob is a cob is a cob" is just rubbish. A COB is just an array of LEDs all on 1 chip. If the diodes used are crap then the whole COB will be crap. If the diodes uses are good then the whole thing will be good. Not all LEDs are the same quality so not all COBs are the same quality.

Here's a chart of the output of this type of COB. As you can see they are advertised at 80-90lm/w. When you factor in driver efficiency you're probably looking at 70lm/w. Sure that'll grow weed but some of the branded options @Airwalker16 linked to earlier output over twice as much light and significantly less heat for the same amount of electricity.

Thanks for the reply, still not decided if I should invest in LEDs or 2x1000wAc/de system .:-/ what's the cost gonna be to get 2000+w equivalent in LEDs?
I'm in the UK so il be paying a lot regardless.
Prob build my own if I do if it's that much cheaper. LEDs moving so fast it's hard to keep up
 
acdes are the best but youre still looking at $600-$700 per setup... and another $150/year for 2 bulbs. not hard to build a cob system that will pay itself back within 2 years

Go on ebay and you'll find lots of cheap 100 watt drivers and 100 watt LEDs used in these flood lights. Use two 100 watt LEDs with one 100 watt driver in a parallel circuit and drive these 100 watt chips at 50 watts to get more light. Make sure you cool the chips with air or water.
