Growing two different strains in same res.

There was a thread on this already somewhere. From what I remember people were saying that the plants will identify the different strain next to it and get nutrient greedy to ensure its own survival. Now there was a discussion back and forth to whether this is a good or bad thing. I think most leaned towards don't do it. If you know the thread please post the link or if you have knowledge about this please feel free to voice your opinion. I am currently growing 2 different strains in the same res and want to weigh the pros and cons. Also need to know how they will react if they react to each other at all. Thank you in advance

I always grow multiple strains or at least different phenos from the same rez. There is always one that could use a little more and one that could use a little less but I don't really run into problems. Main thing is that the flowering time shouldn't be too far apart.

Ya mine will be 2 maybe 3 weeks apart. You say this because of flushing at the end and nutrient schedules in general?

The amount of nutrients used drops near the end. The whole point of a preharvest flush would be to prevent overfeeding during that last week or so, by leaching nutrients from the medium. I don't have a medium, I just lower the ppm by topping of with water only. If I would do that for some plants that are close to harvest, I would possibly create a deficiency for the remaining plants. Doesn't have to be a major issue with a couple of weeks, especially if you keep a balanced soup. I run low ppm (350-450 roughly) during the entire run. With heavy feeders amongst them I can simply top off with nutes more often.

I agree with sativied

I also have run multiple strain in dwc.
only thing to really watch is flower time and overall plant height
but you know that
as to the greedy thing hasnt happened in my exp

If they detect each other's presence there will be a battle royal fight to the death.

Hard to see as it will be very slow motion. Usually around 8 weeks.

lol in all seriousness there was a larger debate on this somewhere. I wish I could find it. Seems everyone agrees here that is doesn't matter much. Thanks for all your input guys.

I too run different phenos and have in the past ran two different strains. I myself try to not do different strain grows anymore as you can run into flowering issues as well as height problems. It would be I think far better to keep strains, pheno's seperate but that would mean bigger rooms, more trays, more res's. A senario thats just not possible in lots of instances.
