so i have about 4 feet of room from top to bottom in the room, and i have been worrying about finding a plant that will grow with these specifications. is there a way to make the plant grow sideways instead of upwards?

You could do a scrog "screen of green" setup which is when you get a plant and then put a screen 8-12 inches or so above the soil/media and then you "weave" the plant slowly into the slots in the screen and it grows along the screen. Or you can do lst "low stress training" were you would have a stick or something along your grow area and you bend the plant slowly as it grows and tie it to the stick and then BAM a plant that is horizontal and growing on a stick lol. Or you could just flower the plants when they are around a foot tall and then they should only get 3x there size max as they flower.

check out my grow journal in link below to see what happens when you top and prune your plant. the topping an pruning needs care so if you want to do that study up first at GROWFAQ on this site. you can make cfls work in your space with this approach. otherwise, go with one of hazey's solutions
