Growing near the equator

I'm starting a new grow in North Malaysia. This is my first real grow outside. My main concern is the light. Being near the equator we get a 12/12 light cycle for most of the year. How will this affect the plant? Will it flower early. Any comments will be very much appreciated as i'm keen to start but not sure of what to expect and if possible pre-empt . Thanks

I woul stick to an equatorial strain , maybe a thai, durban poison, malaw gold, etc - a sativa most likely. Or if you can get a local landrace that has performed well in the local climate. I think you may have some issues if you go with non-equatorial strains that are ued to a bigger change in photoperiod summer to fall
