you can use about anything u want as a pot. it's just best if light cant penetrate it. and yes water drainage is very very very very important. sorry for all the very's but i cant stress it enough

not to mention the balance issues your going to come across. if your looking to grow cheap there are ways to do so. but dont get too cheap its not even gonna be worth it in the long run. my advice? dont grow until you have the money to create something beautiful. the more u put in the more youll get out of it.

my boy use to use the bags of soil for his "grow bags" he used promix and just cut a hole in the bag and planted directly into it. he laid the bag on its side so it was wider than it was tall. it worked relatively good for him.

Roots hate light and I believe you may have light penetration issues with a household white bag, a white grow bag may be differenent. Either way if your intent on growing in these bags at least dig holes for them to block out light and keep the roots cooler or better yet just dig holes and backfill with soil so if the roots want to expand they at least have native soil instead of a vinyl wall to hit.
