growing a mother plant

hi all

Time for me to take some cutting for me to grow a good mother plant
so this is how i do it
taking cutting for a good mother plant

t5 lights

Few good healthy plants, same strain grown from seeds to take cuttings from

Propagator

a tray of root riot,

clonex rooting hormone

jug with some water ph to 5.9

500ml Plant Sprayer

scissors/Scalpel

some wire (2mm thick)




the root riot blocks have been set out so
i know what plants the cutting
come from and socked the cubes in water




use some 2 mm wire to redo the holes in the cubes
so the hole the right size and length for the cutting


use 2 small pots and fill one with water for the cutting and pour some rooting gel in the other pot



when you take cuttings try to take them from the bottom of the plant and make sure the stem is thick
and green, place it into the water and take 2 more cuttings



use plant labels on each plant so you know what plant you took the cutting from




take the 3 cutting over to the tray of root riot,
leave 1-2 leaves on each cutting and if the leaves are big cut the in half
and re cut the stem at a 45% angle and place in the rooting gell
use a lots of gel and pot some in the hole in the cube
and then place the cutting into the riot blocks (don't force the cutting in the hole , make hole bigger if you need to)


so then you should have a tray looking something like this


The row on the end is pearl that the high yielding cutting i got


give the cutting a good spray and place in the Propagator but make sure there not sitting in water,
put the lid on and place under the t5




I will update the forum with pic every day till they root and i re pot them in soil

I took the cutting on Friday
so this is Saturdays update of how the clones are looking

I have sprayed them once a day with ph water at 5.9
and take the lid off every day to give the clones fresh air and check the block are not drying out.

The roots will build up a white block shape on the bottom of the stem and slowly get bigger
over the next 7 days and then i will take the lid off and let the blocks nearly dry out
before I water and the white block will turn into lots of white thick roots and be ready to re pot in soil in 10-14 days

As the roots start to grow the leaves will turn yellow because the clones are moving the food from the leaves to the roots
and some of the time the stems may turn purple which is normal at this stage

most the time i get 95%-100% to root within 10-14 days

should of said the temps need to be round 26c
and the humidity round 95% for the first 4-5 days

just an update not much has changed from yesterday

I have only used rockwool cubes before and decided to try these out (root riot), as i been told there just as easy and 100% organic.
have you tried these before ?

sorry if anyone's following this as i messed up
the tray of root riot still had the round plastic bits at the bottom of the tray, so the water was not draining out
but i saw this on the 3rd day and removed them
The cutting are looking ok and hopping they should still root

but if they don't (over 70% root) i will start over with some more cutting

I will upload some more pics as soon as i see some roots cumming out the blocks

You could try taking out the tray, and just popping them into the dome? I see a lot of people just plop them in they for where ever they sit.. plus if theses are "runoff" it will just evaporate in the dome.. I'm thinking about doing a mother right now also! with 2 nice plants I have vegging at the moment! Keep the strain around as its Mataro blue

I could take them out the tray but they will not have any support,
and it makes it harder to keep tab on what cutting came from which plant

Mataro blue sounds like a very good strain with a high yield

I have grown a mother plant a few times with no problems
but try to show other growers how I grow a good mother plant and everything goes wrong

The best plant i have in the flower room looks like a Hermie (Emma)

so may have to take some more cutting before they start growing bud from some of the other plants,

I took the lid off yesterday and they doing ok but not looking as good as they could

spraying them every day and watering daily

temp 28c and the lights about 3-4" from the cuttings

well thats true I guess.. Things could come a little confusing in the long run... and Its suppose to be from what Ive read besides. Only grows 50cm! but Its a light hog! ( wants 800w HPS recommend ). it seems your doing basically everything right. Maybe they just don't have a high survival chance? Hope then turn out good for you!

As for the hermie make sure you have no light leaks and your timer is working just fine! Light stress is a factor but also many other things as
"GENETICS(most common cause)
Light(second most common cause)
Heat(3rd)
Cold(4th)
Overpruning(5th)"

I should have not played with them as feminized plants have a high chance of going hermie compaired to reg plants

and that means I should have not used femized seeds for growing a mother plant

I will still grow a mother plant and one of the clones have started to grow roots (peal high yeilding strain)
and sure a lot more of them will grow roots in the next 4-5 days

but next grow i will start with thc bomb or northen lights x haze

just not sure which one yet but they will be reg seeds

you was saying your plants only grow 50cm and need 800w hps

I would take this with a pinch of salt

if you can get your 600w light from 18" to 14" above the plants you will have more lums than a 1000w hps at 18" so its down to how high above your plants the lights are, not the watts

More veg time will make the plants grow larger, so it may take longer but i think you could get it a 100cm + without to much trouble

Well I guess thats something to take into consideration for next time! Currently I'm using feminized seeds for a mother plant, But the strain is suppose to be really stabilized for good big cuttings.
and thats a damn expensive 10 pack of seeds for the northen lights. Id do some looking around on that strain first if your going to consider that one. Might be able to find a cheaper cross... Tho the THC Bomb Is much cheaper. Currently I've been thinking about a Haze also. But OG Ghost Train Haze - 25.5%THC - By South west alternative care. and that's lab tested. Seeds could be rated at higher THC ( since theirs always that loss in THC ) ..
and the 800w HPS is just what the company recommends to get optimized results ( for max yield to size, etc... Possible to get the 500 gr /m2) and it only recommends 2 weeks to best yeild. so this is just a short strain!

I looked into og ghost train haze and it does look a very good strain and 25.5% thc, but never heard of rare dankness seeds before company and they say it takes takes 65-80 days to flower and its a Sativa so it could take longer, always go about a week longer than what seed company says

I tried to bye some thcbomb reg seeds today but they had none in stock and said there hard to get hold of, so I said I need some good yielding plants, reg for a good mother plant and as normal they said they can't talk about the seeds but you could look up critical mass on line have a couple of packs in now and will have some more in next week

They have these in stock for about £65-70, 15-18 seeds in a pack, reg, very easy to grow and good smoke and a verrry high yield

I've never really heard of them either but you can get the seeds from Attitude seed bank or a few other place's.. I seen this strain was on the front of hightimes not that long ago as the number 1 strain for "strongest strains on earth" at 25+THC, 10 packs run for about £53.99 ... I seen a grow on the site here ( here's the link https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/514492-rare-dankness-og-ghost-train.html ) Looks like it turned out wicked! nice sativa! Might be worth to look into if you got the space! Critical mass is a nice plant tho! Ive smoked it many times.. for the price its not to bad anyways! theirs really so many strains to look at for HIGH THC and Good Yeild's

i just used a root riot tray to germinate feminized seeds, 20 x barneys farm lsd and 5 feminized freebies from attitude. cost me £118.00.
got 19 lsd to germinate, and 4 freebies so i got 23 out of 25. i am amazed.
i planted the seeds in the tray and plugged the holes per normal routine. i did 24 seeds in the dark for 24 hours at 25c ( roughly 78f )
and then stuck the tray under a 400w metal halide at 1 metre, 24 hours later one plug was pushed out, so i teased all the plugs out and the following day there was lots of life,
one lsd did not germinate and one freebie rooted abot 5 mm and died.
so i used one of these cubes for the 25th seed which was a holy grail feminized freebie and it germinated in 24 hours, i just soaked the cube put the seed in plugged it and just stuck it straight under the light so thats how i ended up with 23 plants out of 25 seeds.
in future i will just stick the tray straight under the light.

i had them in plastic cups for 1 week and then transfered them to 10 litre (2 uk gallons) disposable plant pot bags.
they are 2 weeks and 2 days old.

they are doing well.

i will take some pics 2morrow and post them here ok.

No need to ph your water, it is only for nutrient uptake! Not busting your balls, just one thing less to worry about!

If your see a deficiency is the time I start playing with PH. Otherwise if their already nice and green. no need to bother with PH. Just leave it out for 24 hours. or use tap water if its within good PH and drinkable
