am currently growing in a 2x4x7 grow tent with floriscents. It crop is almost ready for harvest & I have a hps sytem I will be using for my next grow.
Will my 400watt system make my grow tents temperature sky rocket? Will the system make it too hot? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

almost certainly, you'll need a vented cool tube light fixture. Growing in an unheated basement MIGHT be enough cooling to keep you in the proper limits.

You're definitely gonna need some good ventilation, such as a cool tube, though the benefits are definitely worth it. I recently added a 400 hps and my temps shot up to the high 80's low 90's, though I just rigged up a homemade cool tube and things are running smoothly at 78. If you want you could pm me and I could tell you how to make a cooltube for $15 rather than buy one for $60-70.

He'll yes. Anything to keep my temps low. How about a 250watt system. Would that be better in my grow tent? But really enlighted me with the instructions to make that cool tube. Please. But I couldn't tell you the make of the lights since they are still on lay away. (sorry I'm sometimes cheap & it's an easy way for me to purchase expensive stuff)bongsmilie

Sorry it took me so long to reply. With that grow size, I would recommend at least a 400 w, my grow room is smaller than yours and a 400 does the job nicely.
As for the cool tube, you need five things plus the light, ballast, and hood.

Hurricane lamp, its a clear class cylinder that has two open ends (got mine at michaels for $7)
Tape ( I used aluminum tape because the adhesive doesn't heat up and melt)
2 metal ducts for the exhaust (4" diameter)
2 3" fans (computer fans work well and are cheap, inline duct fans work the best but not required)

This link will explain how to assemble the cool tube, and it has pictures.
Hope this helps.

So I went back to the hydro store & the cool tube lighting systems are a bit more. But what I want to know is if a cool tube system will keep my temps down? Around what temps will I be at in a 2x4x7 grow tent with a 400watt cool tube sytem.
& I'm kinda curious to know how a cool tube works.

A cool tube will drop temps dramatically, but you need to have a place to vent the hot air. Like I said, you can either buy one for about $60-70 thats guaranteed to work with little tinkering, or you can make one for about $15. My homemade one works amazingly, dropped temps 20 F, and am able to keep the light about 10" from my plants with no problems (except I accidentally burned my seedlings...but thats my own fault).

So the cool tube comes with a kinda of exhuast fan to keep the bulb cool all the time? Or do I have to connect the cool tube to my already existing Air intake to air outlet system? (which I don't have, crap)
I'm lame I know it seems like I continue to ask the same question over & over. But I feel like a 3rd grader trying to learn physics.
