That's a decent plan for vegging, why not move to 600w hps for flowering. You're going to need different ballasts for different bulbs anyway. I went to 400w hps, but got the 600w very soon after; more buds for less outlay imo.
(Edit) Or even two 250w lights?...

most ballasts are compatible mh and hps aswell as dual spectrum bulbs.if a ballast only takes 1 type of bulb,it must be pretty shit.
and to answer your question SupremeRemy,no a 250 watt hid light shouldnt be to hot for your tent.

I agree with sworth. Go for the 600. You won't regret it.

4x4 is pushing it with a 600. 600 will do 3x3 or 4x4, where as a 1000 watt will do 4x4 or 5x5. If you're buying all this equipment (fast fan, cool tubes etc), you might as well go for a 1000 watt and just be done with it. Its up to you if you want to spend the little bit extra for a 1000 watt though, but you'll get more dense, commercial looking nugs, and just more bud over all.

well from experience, you're going to be stuck with that 400 watter system. You'll be lucky if anyone is gonna buy it off you on craigslist or similar websites, even at 50% off with just 1 grow on it.

For this reason I highly suggest you go at least 600 watts. My first system was 400 and when I harvested all I could think about was, I should have bought the 600 watt. There is very little heat difference in 400 and 600, and the 600 puts out a lot more lumen. One hydro store suggested I get the 600 at least but I thought he was just looking for more money.

well, I put water in 4L milk jug(s), let it sit for 24 hours then add nutrients to the jug. Put the lid on it and shake every time you add a different nutrient. But you can do it straight into the res. 24 hour wait takes all the fluoride out of the water, specially when you have a fish air pump in there bubbling it out

I grow DWC too but I use rubbermaid totes and just cut holes into it to fit net pots. When the plant is mature (last few weeks of veg) it'll suck all that up in pretty much a week exactly. At first you'll have to dump it out weekly and refill it. I wouldn't even add water to it when it gets low, until a week is up, and you need a new batch of nutes. The roots will grow to the water, fast.

But feed how you're comfortable. If you want to just fill the tubs with water and add nutrients then, do that. Only thing is you get chlorine and stuff into the water, some people say that makes pot harsh. I think thats a wives tale though. Try to get a wood paint mixing thing from a paint department to mix the water. It's very important to mix the 3 part nutes in the proper order and give it a stir in between each part. Straight tap water, if your PH is decent for growing, shouldn't effect anything. If you're in a city theres a good chance your water is either good for plants or pretty close to it. Worst case is you needa buy a PH tester and some PH down

yea it gets a bit tricky with long roots to take it off. I just pour the water from the jugs directly on the rockwool. I really only use milk jugs because its easy to get. If you can lift the whole thing up you could just fill it in the bathtub. But water is pretty heavy so getting it out might be hard. Best way I found to do this, is to buy a hose tap adapter and a hose, attach to bathroom sink or what ever and fill from that. No moving or anything. Don't even have to open the grow container, just pour over the clay pellets/rockwool.

I have 2 400 watters in a tent ,working very nice,heat not bad at all.I also wish I would have started with a 600w too,hence using my 400 and one a friend had to get more light
