Grow room space usage

First post here. Great site.

I just built a grow room, and I am unsure as to how best to use my space. I have never grown before, so I have no clue as to what could work.

The overall room is 16'5" x 6'7" and is split into two separate rooms, one for veg and one for flower. Both rooms measure 8'0" x 6'7". The flowering room is unobstructed, so all that space is available to use. The veg room however, has obstructions. It has a 32" door and a set of stairs. Usable space in the veg room is roughly 8'0" x 4'3". Ceilings are 9'0" tall.

What are some options on how I can use my space effectively? My original thought was to grow 4 large plants in a continuous grow cycle. Again, having never done anything like this before, I have no clue as to whether I am on the right track or not.

I do not have my lighting or ventilation figured out yet, but lets assume that I will address those aspects once I have figured out how I am going populate the space with plants.

Any insight will be very much appreciated!

Ur going to have to make clones

The number of plants you run as well as their relative size should be determined by the wattage & type of lighting. Setting up ventilation & lighting should be your first concern but 4 plants seems quite feasible for that space. Environmental conditions like temperature & humidity are very important yet often overlooked or ignored by many noob growers until problems arise. You will need more space to bloom than veg; 2 equal size areas may not work the way you think it will. You can get away with vegging in fairly small spaces but you will want the extra room in your flower area in case you want to stagger harvests for a continuous grow.

Dude... What your asking is some folks wet dream lol.

It's a blank slate with so many opportunities.

Do you want to run perpetual now? Down the road?

How much electricity can you afford?

Do you need to be discreet? Super discreet?

What is it you're aiming for?

Discrete. Not super discrete though. I was hoping for $200 or less per month for electricity. Don't know if that is realistic though.

I really want to build some DIY LEDs. I like to tinker. I've been reading a lot on them. In fact, that is how I found this site.

Once I learn what I am doing, maximum yeild would be my final aim.

I just don't like doing things twice.

Yes, I want to get a healthy return ASAP. But I am also realistic and I know that there is going to be a learning curve. Ideally, I like to make the curve as painless as possible. Hence why I like to get as much right the first time around when it comes to setup. Setup is the aspect that is most in my control, and I want to get it right.

I think perhaps, I need to ask my question at hand in a different format, as I don't think I am being clear.

Would 4 plants be a good place to start in my space? Or am I completely under-utililizing the space by only putting 4 plants in it?

Attached is the layout, if that helps for visualizing what I am describing.

I will have more questions to follow based on any answers that I get in regards to the above. These questions will deal with lighting, ventilation, etc.

Well, you can set your veg room up with selected mothers, run a cloning op, veg them, and then throw them into flower. You can run clones every 2-4 weeks and keep throwing them into the flowering room for perpetual grow. Harvest every 2-4 weeks. Just one possible scenario.

If discreet is your goal, you're gonna need a scrubber with that much volume. Possibly 2. Ventilation and temp is going to be your biggest concern and should dictate your lighting. A ballpark budget would make things easier.

As stated earlier, I will not be housing mothers or producing my clones in this space. I have a friend whom will be taking care of this aspect for me.

But to answer your question, there is very little to no room beneath the stairs. The stairs are only 3 treads.

I know I will need scrubbers. I plan to run each room independently of each other. So that means 2 scrubbers.

Another problem I am addressing is that I have no choice but to intake cold air during the winter. It cannot be avoided. I have already installed wall heaters in both rooms to hopefully combat this.

My bad. Forgot about that and didn't go back to the top.

Are you starting with clones or seeds?

4 plants will be ok in that room, but depending on your budget for lighting you could up the number. On the plus side, you'll be able to get nice airflow through the plants.

However, before you even start growing, set your room up and make sure it's stable for a week before adding plants. The last thing you want is to start growing in a shitty environment.

The number of plants is really of the least concern. Temp, humidity, and lighting are going to dictate your success other than the actual growing itself.

Get a hygrometer/thermometer set up down there and turn on your ventilation. See how it goes. If you really want to run leds, your temp isn't going to rise much if at all in that big of a space.

I would love to help you out but you need to cover the basics and study your grow sites first. There's not much I can say without that info.

Do a test run with and without ventilation. You can always throw it in a timer, say 15 mins every hr. This way you have a chance to build your heat back up.

When I get up and running, I will be starting with clones. For sake of argument, lets just assume I will start with 4 clones.

I could get my veg room up and running fairly quickly. I could forgo leds at the moment and hang some T-5s that I have sitting in a box in my garage.

Would it be best to set up a table in the space that is available in the veg room, evenly space the plants on the table, with two T5 four bulb fixtures hanging above them?

How large of an exhaust/scrubber does this room need? 4", 6", 8"?

Yea, keep them off the floor. T5s will do just fine. Try to mix the spectrum if you can.

4 will be fine to start with. Get all the info you can about them from your friend.

For 4 plants, a single 6" scrubber should work (strain dependent). If need be, just throw another one in down the road if they smell.

Just out of curiosity, why isn't your friend helping you? You don't have to answer that, just seems like the logical thing to do since they already grow.

Just to clarify, I need a 6" scrubber for the veg room only, correct? The flower room will still need its own ventilation, correct?

You don't need carbon filter for veg bro. You will need it when your in flower. Once your 5 weeks into flower that is when you really need a filter unless you wanna get your door broken into and your dog being shot

That's strain dependent. I've had some in veg that stunk like a bastard. Your call OP.

Yeah it is strain dependent but as long as no pre flowers show or sex show then it shouldn't make as much of a smell. Op can just buy a good filter and use it for veg and flower. I have 2 fresh filters for flower, and 1 large ass tall boy filter to use 24/7 when i reach week 5 of flower until harvest.///
