Grow Room Design

I'm trying to come up with ideas for a new setup in my coset. To begin my closet is 2.5 ft deep, 3 ft wide, and about 9 ft high. Before I was cfl's in the closet, but now I want to switch to a 600 HPS. I have removed the closet door and used a sheet of mylar as the new door. I'm thinking of cutting a whole at the top of the door with either a inline fan or a regular fan for exhaust, and a hole at the bottom of the door for intake.

Will this work or will the light get too hot and overpower this small space? Any other ideas appreciated.

I would realy consider to invest the money in a 400W cool tube and a good 5" ventilaion/filter .. wont regret it (unless you live at the northpole ?)

I got a 600W HPS in a space as wide and high as yours .. but 3x as long (so 3x your room M3)

and I got a nice 6" ventilation (no cool tube tho) and Im in scandinavia so our temps is`t that high .. and Im strugeling with +85F at hot summer days I have 88F ..

and I even got a 5" tube from the outdoors with a small ventilation as half of my intake to my grow room ..

so in other word .. a 600W will get pretty hot .. I wouldnt like it in a space like that unless I had AC and cool tube .. or I would for sure choose a 400W cool tube or a 250W ..

if I had the money and only needed one lamp .. for a space like that .. I would save up and buy a nice .. a bit expensive .. digital MH/HPS ballast that can run boath 400W and 600W and boath MH and HPS bulbs (Veg/flowering) with a nice cool tube/refletor and a good ventilation with speed controle ..

600 will work but either way you'll want a air cooled hood running up to that top exhaust with an inline fan. would need to be a 6 inch fan at least.

sure a 600W can work .. but a bit over kill if you ask me ..

and the more light you get .. you pay a price calld heat and its no funn to strugle with .. belive me ..

I would mouch rather buy a nice 400W .. and use the money to get one with a digital ballast I can place out side so heat is even less ..
and one that can run boath MH and HPS ... and a cool tube and a nice ventilation/filter to fit ..

bigger is not allways better .. specialy not in a small place .. a 600W HPS can warm up a normal 2 room appartment !

p.s.

alternativ is to invest in a good LED fixture (a named brand) then you dont have to worry to mouch about heat and big ventilations and cool tubes aso.

I guess end price can be pretty similar ..
the LED and some small PC ventilations might still cost a bit more but power use is also a lot less .. not only in light but also in ventilations aso.

Ok thanks for the advice guys. I don't have a cooltube but my hood has the ventilation openings on both ends. If I were to attach ducting with an inline fan from the light to my exhaust opening in the door, will that be sufficient exhaust alone?

i have about the same room space as you and thought about a bunch of cfls or a 250w hps do to heat issues..im not sure 250hps would work but you would think it would be ideal for that size space..
anyone more experienced care to share????
