Grow lights ......??

I want to start an indoor gro, but i donts want to spend alot on them or order them over the internet.

I want to be able to go into Philips or somewhere and buy them.

How much would they cost to make enough light for 1 plant.

Also is there a thing i could buy (not over internet) that would switch the light on and off, so if i went on holiday i could carry on lighting them, also to be able to swap it to 16/8 and to 12/12 for flowering.

How much would all this cost.......

Thanks and help fully appreciated

They make timers that you plug in your lights to so that they switch on and off at a certain time and length of time. Couldn't tell you were to find one but my g-ma has one at her house.

Their are losts of places to find timers but any home depot, lowes or the like will have basic ones for about $10, If you are only growing one plant you can get some cfl's and or flourescent tubes while you are there as well. You can get all of this done for under $50 also do a bit of research and spend some money on nutes, the more planning and care you put in the more you will get out of this. Good luck with your grow.

look in the lighting section at home depot not the section w/ kitchen lights the one w/ outdoor lighting and you'll find small 175watt metal halide security lights. these work good for a few plants.i think mine came as a mercury vapor bulb but i've changed the bulb to a MH w/ the same wattage which they also sell at the depot.

Its not safe to run a mh bulb in a mercury vapor setup you know that right? Its a fire hazard as they are not even close to the same ballast. You can get a little 70 watt hps light at home depot though in the outside security light section under $80 with bulb.Menards sells the 7 day 1 minute to 23 h 59 minute programable timers for about $12 you can set up to 15 times a day or repeat a single timed amount. Then you can set it to continue those times for eternity.Youd need a flip flop to setup a multi timer setup where the times change from 18/6 to 12/12.Unless your just gone for a like 5 days then you can change the digital time setting on the regular timer to run 18/6 for few days then go 12/12 for the rest.Youd also have to have a watering system setup to leave more then a few days

lol never use in any method other than directed......when you r growing any sketchy moves made in haste can jepordize a hell of alot more than just your plants especially electricity always use recomended bulbs and sizes check volt ranges for anypower cords aswell i hate to think that my fellow growere are sleeping in an elctrical deathtrap without being educated on what is safe and what isnt please becarefull when you make descisions on serious issues like power and heat and saftey..without first doing your homework....

there was a post about someone switching a hps bulb into a mh ballast size was the same but it wasnt the recomended conversion bulb and it just buzzed and wouldnt fire...this may seem harmless to him but if it had actulally been left to sit in the wrong ballast for long it ran the risk of exploding (which i have seen) causing fire plant death and in some cases if you are there to breath the vapors from the bul;b breaking possible small lvl raditaion poisioning...

Yeah this stuff is tricky, that is why they have expensive conversion bulbs for MH balists to use HPS and HPS conversion bulbs for MH. And then the difference between the MH and the HPS has to do with the capacitor. ANd then you really can only disable the capacitor on 1000 watt HPS to use MH and be safe. And tons of other crap that is too confusing to get into in depth. Fact is also that your bulb isn't working 100% either and is probably heating up above normal.

I bought a 250 watt HPS ballist on the net years ago and a box at HD for cheap. But now I'm sure about buying via the net, everyone is way more paranoid now. HD and lowes don't really cary MH and HPS ballists only bulbs. You have to go to a specialty lighting store and pay cash.

I've never even heard of merc vapor running a MH or HPS before.

yeah, best to start clones, and for any plant but, some people say to use HPS at least for flower stage.
