I grew indoor for years but life happened and now it's been 10yrs and I'm back! Lol ... well not yet but almost. 4x4x6 tent. 600w mh and hps bulb. 6" air cooled hood. 4" exhaust and carbon filter -> outside. The tent is in my heated and cooled basement. I have humidifier and dehumidifier on standby. I will be growing 4 maybe 5 autos for my first run and im sure will be heading back into my old photo wanna be pheno hunter/seed maker but that's for another time not now. My thing that I'm pondering is the 6"... The kit I ordered came with 4inch filter, fan, and hose but nothing for the 6" hood. So I am going to order a 6" fan, filter, and hose very soon maybe today.. With the central air staying at 68 everyday( wife is in those stages of womahood haha) I am going to need some heat I'm assuming. Should i save all the 4 inch for another tent and run my lights and filter all together on the 6" ? I was thinking I was going to use both the 4 for exhausting the tent thru filter and the 6inch with no filter for the lights. Any help clearing my mind up before I make an order would be greatly appreciated!!!

Id run a 6 inch fan to cool the light. Make sure the intake of the ducting is outside your tent so your not pulling in any smell from inside your tent.. I would definitely filter it or your going to be pulling all kinds of dust and debree through your light. I'd dump the heat from the light outside if you can through an exaust port in a window.. Then I'd run the 4 inch fan/filter on a thermostat this way you can run co2 if you like and not have it immediately sucked out of your room by an exaust fan that runs 24/7. Make sure to filter the intake to your tent as well.

I like to test environment first before overspending on equipment that'll end up collecting dust.

I would love to say run a 6" filter, fan and hood all together but 4ft tent width is probably not enough horizontal space and you want as much vertical grow space as possible.

Run the equip you have now for 48 hours to see if a 6" fan for hood is necessary. It may generate the heat you need instead of throwing in a heater and fan.

Hook up the 4" fan/filter combo and run it. Open up a hole towards bottom of tent equivalent to 8" for a passive intake. Make sure you can test temp and rh%.

Yah I dont wanna spend money I dont have but I'm a little anxious to get started. I just thought with the hood being air cooled I mine as well get the 6 cause I didnt know how much heat it would dump into tent. Then I thought that maybe the 4 and 6 together might be overkill?

Right, my point exactly. Just test what you got for 48 hours and that's enough time to tell you. Temp is really what you're looking for. RH% will fluctuate when plant goes from veg to flower but you're ready for that.

Maybe try few spots. I don't know if it matters since we're not testing for light intensity just tent temp. I keep mine just above canopy but since you don't have one yet, midway and your suggested spot is fine to take differe t readings.

A 6 inch exaust in a 4x4 tent with a passive intake won't work gentleman, your tent will get sucked right in you will lose 30% of your canopy

You could run your 4" fan as an intake.. "make sure you filter it or you will be pulling all kinds of dust and debris into your grow environment but your tent will still probably suck in quite a bit..

Are you running hydro or soil? After accounting for

uh, that’s not entirely true. 6 inch is exactly what op needs with an adjustable speed inline exhaust. Also negative pressure is desired, maybe not the ***30*** canopy loss though LUL. The fuck

Lol a 6 inch fan will produce way to much negative pressure for a 4x4 grow tent. End of story.

I run a 6" max fan with an adjustable speed dial in a 5x9 for veg and it sucks the tent right in on the lowest setting... With a 4x4 its gonna be way worse and if your tent is bowing in 6 inches on all sides that might not be quite 30% but still considerable... Your also gonna wear away at your stitching and fuck up your zippers..

Will this work...?
If I run a 6 inch drawing filtered air from outside the tent into fan and across the light and straight outside and then the 4 inch inside the tent starting at the charcoal filter and thru fan outside? Also the 4 inch fan is variable and also the 6 that I'm thinking I'm getting now for sure

lol... you can make anything work. Is it necessary is the question. Do as you will OP. A simple test would answer your own question.

If you're worried about your walls sucking in and encroaching on your canopy, why not make some side braces? Makes a great place to attach a support net as well.. never saw a tent that needed an intake fan. Run filter off the 6" fan and use the 4" to cool the light

The light housing is 6 inch

Yes I completely agree with you. I was trying to figure out the best scenario by someones experience maybe. You would think as a former grower that i would have more patience. Lol...

I used to run a 6x6 flower room that ran 2 4" exhaust fans with no filtration. We had 2 600w hid without cooling and everything was good. I think I'm going to just run the 6 with fan blowing through the light straight outside. Filter with the 4" straight outside and go from there.
