Grow Box Heat Problem - Moving Outdoor Solution?

  • Already posted but think its in wrong place - better suited here as it is still, really, an indoor grow.

    SO.... First things first.

Growing just under 8 plants in a long wooden 3-4 ft tall box.

All I am growing is Autos.

I have a massive issue with heat... I am using 2x 250 Watt CFLs with 1 desk fan for extraction and one for intake.

No matter what, after 6 hrs of the bulb on my temps reach 90+ and by the time I turn them off are approx 100.

    My possible solution.

I live in the UK so its cold as hell outside. I have a little outhouse / tin shed that holds no heat what so ever (Just as cold as being outside)

If I put the box in this awfully cold place (Basically part of my garden with a roof and mains socket), keep the fans going, put the light schedule to 18/6 (Dark Period 12:00 - 18:00, warmest points) will this be enough to prevent the heat issue?

Intake hole is about the size of a fist and same for outtake, just 2 regular desk fans for air circulation.

I also think this will help for dissipating the smell a bit along side actual smell control.

Main thing is, will this control my heat? - I know I will have to worry more about pests etc.

I grow outside all winter in a super insulated box inside my shed. Is roughly 6x7x8' high. I'm running a 1000 watt hps with a 250 cfm exhaust fan. My room is tight. It is 5 degrees f. Outside right now, but holding 65-70 inside just from the light temp. My advice is to watch your nighttime humidity!!!

Thats rly good to know - thanks.

Your bulb will give more heat than my 250cfls but I guess your box is significantly taller.

Can you remember your indoor temps? - Did you move outside because of indoor temps?

I'm outside for different reasons, but I was able to cool a MUCH smaller room ( same situation ). The exhaust fan was hooked directly to the light, then I used a thermostatically controlled fan and switch( attic fan switch) to let in cool air if I got too hot. I was able to get whatever indoor temp I wanted. Not an ideal setup for sure, but it works.

well its 45 outside, box has been put outside but now only a temp of 60 inside box?

inside too warm, outside too cool.... haven't got space for more vents/circulation. a good idea would be venting the bulb directly as you said - something like a cooling tube, idk.

either way, leaving it outside as 60 is better than 100.

already ordered and swapping out my 2x 250cfls for a 1 400w HPS bulb which comes with tent, ballast, reflector, carbon filter and inline fan. 180cmx100cmx100cm.

Should increase the temps a little for such a cold grow room.

Not sure how the tent will effect the heat, either way, can take it back inside if it gets to cold... cant imagine that will happen with the hps bulb.

so i just left an oscilating fan in the box with nothing else running except a 24/7 bulb.. keeping me at 68. good to go i guess.
