I might have us some help coming over! hopefully someone can shed some light on all this! I wish I knew more about it, but this type of growing is really not popular, and I don't understand why! it's so easy and I'm getting amazing results! but hey maybe we can all learn together!

Look up a "EarthBox" that is exactly what you got. Kevin Jordey explains all of this on his "YouTube" channel. Works for Wonderland Nursery. The "GrowKashi" guy is his buddy. Hope this helps explain how the wicking system works.

Yes, em1 has lacto, psnb, yeasts, few things but basically that lacto is so strong that it out competes everything.

But you haveto add it every week.

No big deal, a little goes a long way and theres lots of fun recipes to play with that help breed beneficial bacteria and lots of other goodies

Sst, corn, alfalfa,barley mungbean
Fsst
Citrust ferment
Bokashi
Kombucha
Flower power

Also make your own worm bin and bokashi compost :) and get lots of barley. Two row

Look up probiotic farmers aliance on facebook and chris trump on youtube .

Ps you can use labs instead of sugar on alot of those recipes.

Ps labs is anerobic, we use it to ferment stuff . And its beneficial. So your res wont stink. Your soil wont go anearobic

Sorry, Im no help there @Greenthumbs256 . I dont mess much at all with organics. Im actually all sterile with my hydro systems.
X2 on the rubber grommet and a barbed 90* fitting with a sight tube. Drill a 7/16" hole and use a 1/2" grommet. then put the 1/2" barbed 90 into the grommet and put some clear tube on the other end of the barbed 90. I've been using this style for 15+ yrs and not a drop leaked from any of them in this time. Very tight, secure fit.

my soil or rez has never stunk with just using em1!

as for when I know it's empty, I kinda don't other than lifting the whole thing, but if you look closely on the second pic of the sip pics, you can see I have a "fill hole" basically once I'm filling the rez and it gets to max level with water, it will start pouring out that Lil hole and then I know to stop filling! unfortunately I have not figured out a way to tell if it's gone dry other than just topping it off! I'm still working on that one lol! great questions man! hope I cleared some things up!

I have used Net pots and zip ties or cut/drill hole slightly smaller then the rim of your net pots and let gravity hold them in...

yea honestly I think that's what kept it in place last time, like is said I think the em1 melted the hot glue off, no telling how long that took! but it worked great from beginning to end so no complaints!!

but we have a guy who should be popping in here at some point with some info for us or me lol! from what I'm told he's been doing sips for about 2 years and extremely successful, and should have the answers to most if not all of our questions!

I could have used that info last night when I busted out the side of a tote, completely trashed it, I'm hoping to find some kinda use for it now!

I'm glad I bought 2 lol at least one made it! but like ive said 100 times I'm slowly converting my entire grow to these sips pots! especially if I can get good info on it and perfect my method! it's hard to imagine that it could get any better but we will see!

So I'll try to post some stuff here as I get time.

I've been running some large SIPs for two or three years now. Approx 30 gal soil with 10 gal res. They are all organic / no-till living soil. There res does have an airstone. Two wicks set about a third in from each end.

I'll try to find my design, but it was published by a DR who is super into tomatoes and it was the easiest DIY design I found that allowed for a larger size.

The airstone (IME) helps to keep the water oxygenated while also keeping it from being stagnant. I do put EM1 in the res weekly as of the last couple runs. Im not certain I've noticed a difference. I try to keep the entire soil bed innoculated with benis and provide 2 teas / week during flower, so it's difficult to know if the EM1 is having an affect. Definetly no negative affect.

I do not cover the SIPs. I run a clover cover crop which allows me to topdress regularly while also top watering with teas 2x / week to keep the topsoil moist. I fill the SIP res 3x / month. It would probably be less work to cover the SIPs to retain moisture but the opened container helps control humidity. Tend to be really dry in my neck of the woods.

I think if you look into no till / water only organic farming it tend to fit right into sips. You might have to make some minor adjustments, but you can really get away with alot.

I left my plants during veg for 14 days while or if the country recently. Just topped off the ship and top watered before leaving. Not only were the plants alive, but they were healthy to boot.

so u use a air pump in your rez and use em1 in your rez? I think the reason your not noticing any difference is bc em1 is anaerobic when you throw an air stone down in there, we'll idk honestly but I don't think it can be good? like u said it proably don't hurt but i doubt your getting all the benefits that you could be getting? but I really don't know all this is just an educated guess!

they do look great let me see if I can pull up some old pics of my last grown with a sip!

here was my first sip, I based mine off a video I watched from Alan akkassion, it's super simple, it's my rols soil, with extra dolomite lime, I grow in a top layers of mycelium, and feed em1 every other week through the bottom and that's basically it, it out grow every other plant and my space it was actually a problem for how big it got and how fast! lol a god problem to have!

that's also something I was told to never do, I never top water, but I keep a black trash bag over the top and it sweats! so the top stays moist and the mycelium just explodes!

I think you and I can learn a lot from each other by mixing or methods a tad! I've heard about using an air stone but bc of the em1 I never tried it! I'm sure we can find an em1 expert here in the organic threads, and maybe they can join in lol!

I'm determined to get some good information and a better understanding of how all this works! I mean it obviously works I've seen the results and I assume you have to! but I would like to perfect this, so I can bring it to the hydro guys and run a real comparison, I know most hydro guys have their stuff dialed in, and I think this can truly be better than both hydro and organics!
