Grafting

I'm curious about grafting and was hoping someone with successfull experience could shed some insight on the whole process. I saw a YouTube vid where a guy had a bunch of different strains on one mother plant. I personally think that is a super smart way of saving space where space for some or most may be an issue. If one were to start a few different strains at the same time and then graft different multiple strains to one plant while in the veg stage and then flower the plant with all of its different strains at the same time once ready then in two months time one should have a variety of buds to harvest in theory right???

Yes someone could do that but harvest time would likely have to be rather staggered. Unless someone grafted/grew nothing but strains that were very similar the finishing time for each strain would be different enough to make it a hassle and a half come harvest time. It can be done but it is not as simple as it might seem it would be.

It would be more useful to graft to keep more strains on fewer mother/donor plants. If someone is a med patient and wants or needs more strains than the law will allow them to keep mother/donor plants they could add/graft strains to the limited number of mother/donor plants and tag/mark each grafted strain so each can be accurately identified for the future and have the legal number of mother/donor plants but with each made up of multiple strains.

Ok I didn't about the different harvest times for each strain thanks do you have any suggestions for this and how would this work out if the mother plant being SCROG'd with all her various strains

Is there a benefit to SCROGging a mother/donor plant since they are not flowered and instead are left in a vegetative growth stage?

Oh wow I didn't know that. But now since you've asked me that I now know that flowering a grafted mother plant isn't practical or should just be left to veg and just cloned from. Thanks I'm learning something new everyday. I'm assuming that after cloning from that grafted mother plant that SCROG then wouldn't be a problem right??

Just thinking out loud but what if for example, one person took a fully matured root ball from one cannabis plant and grafted it onto another lets say a four week old clone. Would this not increase your yeild of the plant and time in the long run? I've heard of a tomatoe plant being grafted onto a hybrid resistant root stock and it gave a considerable increase in growth, so would it not do the same for cannabis? And if so, how beneficial would this be for the clone? Would the most dominate traits take over of the grafted root ball or would the clone just have a advantage of having a larger cluser of roots then its origanally meant to?

Well to be completely dhonest with you I've yet to graft a branch from one plant to another let alone one plant's top to another plant's root ball so I'm going to have to say I don't know the answer to that. However I have seen a YouTube vid where it had been successfully done and in the vid it was explained that the top portion of the plant is was selected for its bug resistance and the older much more mature rootball was said to provide an extremely large increase in the total water intake of the grafted plant. Now as far as gentics I would assume that the plant's top portion would grow just its mother did just faster and fuller especially if grown hydroponically. Verticle growth obvisously with will be delayed 1-2 weeks top pending on which root hormone compound is used while the plant heals. Yield (Gross) might be a lil tricky bcuz it will be basesd on both grafted plants total yields. So let me know if works out and keep me posted once or if you try it.

k thx from first looks of this grafting a hybrid seems like a preety good idea plus with the larger root ball to help it take off alittle better might take off a good 2-3 months of growing taking off 1-2 weeks for the plant to heal , but in the end wouldent your ( total yields ) still be higher? then lets say the mother plant ?? becasue it had a advantige?

ill see what i can do im really thinknig of trying this just need to think of the plants i wanna do it to and time consumption , im a busy guy you know :P

I'd say give it a whirl on bagseed plants just to get a better understanding about grafting and how the plant will heal before you try it on a hybrid or try it on clones of hybrids

I have been wondering about this very thing, I have a couple of plants with massive root systems in flower right now and had wondered what would happen if I tried this. I'm assuming there would be some recovery time required before throwing it into flower, but...

More interesting still would be the grafting of a monster-cropped plant onto an established rootball.

From everything I've read and seen online it definitly benefits whatever plant is grafted to a well established rootball. After the graft has healed the plant explodes with life and takes off faster then it would had it been left to its own devices. I've seen videos of various flowers grafted to trees in order to ensure a ample supply of water to the flower.

I would love to see someone try any of these grafting ideas and let us know how they turn out.

This is brilliant chimney lungs, very cool idea. It would be absolutely mind bending to have a rather large mother plant with 4 different strains grafted onto it.... I could see how that could get confusing too if not correctly labeled! I know my stoned ass would be making quite a few notes and branch tags!

As for the grafting onto established root balls. I'd love to take a little clone and graft it onto this girls leg... hell if I cut correctly I bet I could get two clones going in different directions at the node break!!

thats one nice stem, good and thick and you can a tie-rap on it or somekinda wire near the top whats this for? to cut down on groth? or.. would like to hear more, and i wouldent see why you couldent do 4 instead of 2 clones if you cut it correctly haa would be a hell of a thing to see :P , I pass the Joint to you TheRunier
