I saw a video on Youtube where someone grafted one strain of cannabis to another strain, very much like one would graft a citrus tree or rose bush.

My question is this: By grafting a cutting onto a plant, with the cutting retain it's genetics (like a tree that grows half oranges and half limes), or will the two strains intermix and have the finished product have the characteristics of both strains.

And maybe I'm answering my own question, but can you graft a male cutting to a female plant, and have it self pollinate?

Damn. I should have gotten stoned before I started this discussion. My head hurts now.
 
It will retain its genetics. Basically they are sharing a root system.
Yes you can graft a male and it will pollinate the female.
 
I think I might try grafting a female branch onto a male. That way I could get a few seeds without having to pollinate it myself. Sounds like fun anyway.
 
Well, the idea was to do exactly what both Althor and Cindysid both mentioned. Getting some of all your favorite strains in one grow while staying legal, and having a small pollination instead of a whole room being contaminated with a full grown male. You could grow one self pollinating, or cross pollinating plant and have seeds in one easy to manage location. I bet if you cut off the male graft after it pollinated, you could then bring the pollinated female back into flowering with the others.. Or is my thinking of pollination flawed..
 
How old can a plant b b4 u try to graft it to another plant. U don't think it would be easier to grow male plants and harvest the pollen sacks b4 they bloom so u can save em to pollinate ur plants during other grow seasons? Or just use GA3 or CS.

I was actually thinking the lights. You can put a male under a flourescent and keep it alive and growing plenty long enough to harvest pollen. Plus why keep a male going for an entire female grow cycle when you can pretty much get all the pollen you can need around 4-5 weeks in off your male.
 
what if you took a larger plant. and harvested it. and grafted a smaller plant to the harvested on. would the already large root system increase the rate of groth on the new graft. would it be worth keeping the same root sytem.
