I have to do a paper on an article for the NYT "The Czars' Reefer Madness" by John Tierney about dutch and u.s. laws on marijuana. I just wanted to know what anyone though about these questions, and other peoples opinions would help. Thank You.

1. What do you thnk leads young people to try it for the first time?

2.Compare/contrast laws in Netherlands and U.S.

3. Do you think marijuana should be legalized? Use specific facts to back up your position.

When I was growing up my parents had cookouts and parties almost every weekend during the summer, smokin weed, eating good food, having a good time. I think that was a factor in me trying pot for the first time. My dad was a low-level dealer that did time on two occasions for selling so I know its not all roses.

2.Compare/contrast laws in Netherlands and U.S.

Not much of an opinion other than their laws are better than our laws.

3. Do you think marijuana should be legalized? Use specific facts to back up your position. There are about 10,000 books, publications, etc. as to why pot should be legal. Check out anything by Ed Rosenthal.

American people have to want pot legal or it will never happen. It's hard trying to change something if you feel like you are the only one but rollitup is a perfect example of what a deverse group partake in Marijuana, think of all those who are just to scared to be on a site like this.

Q1
I too grew up in a house that exposed me to the use of marijuana from a young age. I also noticed that my moms friends that just smoked and didnt drink got so much more mellow and funny, i liked that. The first time i smoked was not with my parents but being so comfortable with the process i didnt hesitate to smoke with friends.

Q2 i have no idea what laws are anywhere but in my state and i know they suck!!!!
The amount of nasty perscription drugs you can get a script for ......and one cant even sit back and smoke a joint?

Q3
every single day i think about how i could go to jail for growing some damn plants? However if i was on pills or drunk i could hop in a car and drive get busted and be back behind the wheel in about six months? If i got caught with my plants it would all be much worse. I beleive we should all be allowed to do what we want as long as it only impacts our lives. I am not doing anything wrong by growing a few plants to keep myself happy and creative, how does that effect anyone else.

well im real high off my fresh harvest i just smoked for the first time and its time to get to work, sorry i have no facts just opinions

Curiosity, being bored, peer pressure, rasied around it, friends do it.. what ever.

Dutch are awesome.

Yes! legal marijuana ftw!
Non violent 'criminals' are being locked away in prison for commiting a first offense related to marijuana. I beleive this is wrong to them and to the people whos taxes are going to help imprison these people for what our government. calls a crime. I believe the legalization of marijuana will let a lot of non violent first time offenders out of the jail.
There's also alot of controversy on wether marijuana has any medicinal use, some doctors/scientists say yes others say no. I say yes to medicinal marijauna.
