Government corruption, Canadian style...

PM's mother Margaret and brother Alexandre were both paid to speak at WE Charity events

What confuses me is that nothing has really been hidden. Trudeau just straight up announced the charity would run the program, everyone knows he's associated with it, all this info coming to light is in the public record of the charity, right? so it's not like he really tried to hide anything? It just seems, i don't know, either brazenly bold or ignorantly innocent, can't get a bead on it yet.

It is odd but like I said, government corruption Canadian style.

I can’t understand paying Margaret $250K to speak. What the fuck is she talking about? There might be some interesting Rollong Stones stories but that’s about it.

Welcome to Canada. We're funneling your tax dollars into our own pockets, but at least we're telling you how we're doing it. You are now in the know. Move along. Have a nice day.

We do have a minority government and had one when these arrangements were made over covid. If there was anything criminal here, or even improper, the liberals are in a minority position in parliament and an investigation would be forthcoming. Justin's mom made 28 appearances and if she were rich, she should do it for free or have expenses covered, if not, other public speakers are paid too for appearances. Celebrities drive attendance at these events and in sports too, many attend to see the stars.

Normal politics.

Many Americans would pay money to hear Trump speak...

So you have no problem with Trudeau’s favourite “charity” getting $900 million without any process? An organization that pays Trudeau’s family hundreds of thousands of dollars?

There IS an investigation going on by the Ethics Commission. The THIRD such investigation for this Prime Minister. So I guess we’ll see.

What you call normal politics I call potential corruption and I’m not as quick to dismiss it as you are.

Maybe you should spend a bit more time paying attention to what’s going on in your own backyard.

An example of Canadian vigilantes.........

2 protesters attacked with hockey stick following Black and Indigenous Lives Matter rally in Winnipeg

If I'm not mistaken broadway is part of the transCanada highway, he's lucky he didn't get run over! Two people in the middle of the road would piss a lot of non racist people off too, they were not part of a larger protest at the time and it appeared to be a spontaneous act on the part of the protester and the driver. Racist slurs are wrong, but you can shout "get the fuck off the road you idiot'! If they wanted to do damage they would have used the blade end of the stick! I guess the cops and the courts will have to work this one out, racist slurs are illegal in Canada, so is throwing water at someone, as is striking someone with a hockey stick, which ever end you use. They could have drove away or backed away, getting out of the car with a weapon was legally wrong, so were any racist slurs, if they were uttered. Throwing water at the car is questionable and a judge would most likely dismiss it.

This is one of the reasons we have laws, courts and judges, we pay them to sort this shit out.

normal politics

All involuntary based government is corrupt, if you consider threats of violence against neutral or peaceful people to be bad behavior.

The reason that is true, is there are two opposing standards of behavior acceptability for the exact same actions, when those actions are performed by different people. To believe in that bullshit, a person would have to be severely indoctrinated.

There are standards which tell you it's bad for you or me to threaten peaceful people.

There are standards which tell you it's okay for government to threaten peaceful people.

I'm not gonna dismiss it, but it was a matter of expediency in an emergency situation. As I recall Harper was no angel either and as I said these matters are being investigated as were the others, we have a minority government and the truth will come out, the rest is up to you and me.

This is politics not perfection, shit happens all the time in all governments on earth, politics is about power and that is always messy with lots of unsavory people involved in grappling for it.

We pay enough attention to our own backyard (you and I at least) and Canadians are not exempt from the human condition, we are no different than Americans, just a different kind of government and a little different culture. Until recently there was not too much difference between the countries other than healthcare and a few other details. The USA is a lawless state now largely run by a psychopath who violates their own constitution, laws treaties and agreements. They have become literally pariahs and are unwelcome in all countries because of their failure in dealing with a basic public health issue. Right now America is a failed state and will remain one for as long as Trump is POTUS, after he is gone the ship of state will quickly right itself.

I think your fondness for Trudeau is clouding your judgment. I don’t feel the same way about him I did when I voted Liberal in 2015.

I now see him to be an entitled little prick who rode his privilege and family name to become Prime Minister. All the while pretending to be something he wasn’t.

Agreed. I just couldn’t help seeing the humour in the stereotypical Canadian weapon of choice.

I do like Justin, but he ain't perfect. The NDP are fiscally irresponsible and have proved it repeatedly, the Tories are, well tories, so it's a matter of choice between the less than perfect, the least flawed if you will.

If Justin fucked up the covid response like Trump or was involved in 1/10,000th of the scandals, I'd burn the fucker at the stake in front of the peace fountain on parliament hill. I'd be in a very large mob and you'd be there too! :D
