whats a really good 600w or 1000w hps for its price..i want to get a second one for flowering but not sure which brand i should go with..any recommendations??...+ rep for help...:bigjoint:

No problem... Ive had mine for 4 years with no problems, although I do recommend going with a better bulb than the one that comes with it (htg bulb).. you can customize your order and upgrade to a better bulb for 10 or 20 dollars more...
When I bought mine I went with the htg bulb that comes with it and about 3 weeks into my grow it burnt out... I called them and the same day they shipped me out a better bulb at no extra charge with no hassles.. They trusted that I wasnt bs,ing and just asked me to send back the old bulb...
This unit is also a digital ballest and a hps/mh ballest to boot... you wont find a better deal.... good luck man... heres the direct link....

btw...its not growbright (thats the better bulb) ..its digital greenhouse....

thanks again im definitely gonna order one this week...how was the heat from it by the way???..

Well like any hps light...it throws out some heat...I kept it about 15 inches from my tops without a problem... the digital ballast runs cool compared to the magnetic ones...It throws off barely any heat at all and i8s silent to..

I went with what my homie recommended based on what he uses from all of his experience…

Lumatek ballast & Hortilux bulb

Thats a good unit for sure... but jacob is talking price to... the setup your talking about is roughly $400.00......

True, but quality cost money as well. Something OP should be aware of is that… you don't want your ballast or bulb going out in the middle of your 12/12 cycle or your 18/6 cycle… that would suck… granted shit happens to any product, you do get what you pay for in most products.

But I mean, realistically it's not all THAT expensive compared to everything needed to get going in the first place.

I'm running just a 400w ballast/bulb
- $189.95 (400w lumatek ballast) http://www.sunlightsupply.com/p-11990-lumatek-electronic-ballasts.aspx
- $94.95 (Hortiux 400w HPS) http://www.sunlightsupply.com/p-13104-eye-hortilux-hps-enhanced-perf-lamps.aspx
— total $284 (not including a reflector of course, which could exceed or be less than that $400 mark depending on what one gets)
— Granted I got it at a homie hook up price and didn't have to pay any shipping and handling, I'm glad I went his route.

The same setup could be bought at the decent prices, this site is showing $148 for the 400w Lumatek ballast, so I guess shopping around helps too.

I almost just skipped going through my boy all together and ordering from TigerHydro.com because I wanted to save that money too, i.e. http://www.tigerhydro.com/sw-hpsset400.html
— comes with the whole loot
- bulb
- ballast
- bat wing
- yo yos
- timer
— $149.00

now I can't knock it cuz I never tried it… but again, the last thing I want is a bad ballast or bulb smack dab in the middle of my grow season.

FYI: i'm not trying to force my opinion on anyone, just sharing my limited knowledge for what it's worth.

lumatex and hortilux I second that, my power bill only went up like ten bucks running a 600w 12 hours a day.

as a journeyman electrician I can tell you for a fact (along with anybody else who has a common knowledge of electricity) that the brand of a 600 watt hps or any electrical device for that matter has nothing to do with the power consumption of the device... A 600 watt hps fixture uses 600 watts of power (actually a little more)
600 watts is 600 watts man...

I totally agree with you man, lumatek is an excellent ballast, but look around here and you will see the htg digital greenhouse 600 watt hps holds its own....Ive had mine 4 years with no probs what so ever....Theres alot of people on here who will agree.... Its a simple matter of choice....
