Going away for a week...

I just started a new grow last week and the seedlings are about 1.5" tall... I am growing with CFLs and have the bulbs a little over an inch away from the plants...

I just found out I have to go out of town tomorrow till Friday... any ideas on how to make sure not to kill these babies while I am out of town? they have been growing into the lights everyday, so I don't want to burn them... or let them run out of water...

I had the same issue.

I watered them thoroughly and let them drain out fully, they grew a few inches but I was ok as they were on the balcony in the sunshine for 5 days, you may have to raise your CFL's or get someone to come check on them.

just raise your CFLS a foot. They might not get much light but they wont die!

a week huh ? well considering you are growing with cfls you could probably water the hell out of your plants right befor you leave, and raise the cfls 4-5 inches above the plants and that way the soil would stay saturated longer! i would get someone to babysit your plants. when i go away for trainings and conventions i give a key to my brother and tell him to water every two days, and raise the lights one inch every third day. (i give him a detailed list of what not do aswell) and some other basics just in order to keep the plants alive. i mean thats the best way to do it if you have to go out of town. but i dont think you should worry you plants will survive for a week given that your lights dont go out or the temp in your grow room doesnt crash and stay at consistantly low temperatures.

youll need more than 5 inches, put that light away at 10-15 inches, this is where they grow fast

Don't you think they will stretch too much?

As far as letting people come into your house with this shit, well, ya know how that goes...

well 10-15 inches with most cfls wont get any growth... i left for 11 days n my plants got fucked... if your just going away for 5-7 days then i would water heavily right befor you go... back the lights off a good amount.. to prevent drying soil or burning plants i would try to raise humidity in the grow space.. to keep soil moister and your plants should be fine... i normally water my plants well and then leave them 4 days and on the 5th day i water.. so 1-2 more days shouldent be bad... also my grow area is very low humidity so my soil drys fastish
