Gnats?

I've noticed a gnat, seriously I've only seen one, but my plant is showing all sorts of discoloration, so I want to know if that little bastard is responsible.

To my knowledge gnats don't cause damage to leaves. It could be from some other pest but it looks like a nutrient deficiency to me. I would guess phosphorus or calcium.
 
Well, I guess it's time to get testing then. Also, as a side note, I'm laying down gravel over my soil to try and deal with any potential gnat problems.
 
how small are the pieces of gravel? If it's too big it might not be very effective at keeping them from tunneling down to the soil. I'm using a few inches of sand to deal with a gnat problem and it seems to be working great.

Good luck getting rid of the little bastards.

I was thinking of using aquarium gravel, but maybe I'll get sand instead.

sand works well ,also get a bottle of neem oil and your gnat problem should be over! to use just spray as needed for bug control
 
I battled a shit load of fungus gnats and they are annoying. I tried the azamax and gnatrol only to have them come back. Problem is these flys before they die like to have a fuck fest on your medium and plant their larvae into your medium. The only thing that killed them off for me was predatory nematodes. Fucking microscopic ring worm feeds on the gnat larvae. Sticky traps to get the adults. Problem is people who are new to pests think only to get rid of the adult gnats ( the ones with wings) not knowing they already laid a shit load of larvae in your medium and the baby larvae gets its food from your roots.
 
Just an update quick - I did more looking, more testing, more hunting...and then I saw these weird spots on my plant. Aphids. I'm going to be off to the store in the morning, I need some supplies. Little fuckers just waged war and didn't even realize it.
 
Organic pest spray.
-2 garlic cloves(Remove skin)
-1 lemon (squeeze juice)
-Vinegar (bout a 1/4 cup)
-Hot sauce (pref. Tabasco)[10 Drops]
-H20 (bout a cup)
Mix all ingredients listed above into a blender and blend very well.
Then strain all excess material leaving only the juice.
Pour into a spray bottle! WAHLAH!
Note; If juice looks too red water down the solution.

Apply to underside of leaves or where infection on pest is spray every day until you see desired results.

anyone try go-gnats at all? been getting these annoying little flys around my plant as well and was wondering if thats the solution. picked some up at the local hydro store

I bought some and took it back because people told me it fucked up there grow and killed their entire grow and some folk told me it worked really well. Here's the thing I learned about go gnats DO not add it to your reservoir get some instructions on it and use it as a "medium drench"
 
Wow dude take a step back a second... I don't wanna take sides; but you don't know what kind of info he might have. By jumping down his throat you too are being a "dickhead". At least hear him out...

I wasn't talking about you making the misdiagnoses, I was referring to the other peeps. But good luck with the root aphids. Haha
 
the only problem above soil that you really see with gnats is droopy leaves, and sometimes they curl under,
