I like it but is that cardboard? I know hardly anything about dwc but I dont think you should be using cardboard. Are you gonna transplant that plant into there? you should pro'lly use clay peebles for dwc.

there is just card board at the top 2 block light lol , yea thats the plant i hope to put in there . do you have any ideas of a store that sells clay pebbles ?

maybe you could try a grow shop for clay peebles. in your picture the cardboard is getting a soaking you should use something non absorbent, how are you gonna transplant the plant from soil(?) to clay peebles without riping all the roots

So I am Blue Dreamin :blsmoke: and decided to give my 2 centavos~

YOU WANT CHEAP GROWING MEDIA?

Get a sponge at the 1$ dollar store near you im not kidding. They are cheap and easily replaceable if needed.? I have successfully just poured (Top-Fed) (I guess) distilled water through the sponge to fix any PH imbalances it may have soaked up with the rez. Once a week is good.

Otherwise I don't think a smaller bag of Hydroton is over 10$. Then again 1 Little Grodan block is only 1.50$.

You can just wash off the dirt with your normal sink sprayer quite well. and place it in the cube/hydroton/sponge then place it in that bubbler you have there.

"Personally I think Rock wool cubes slow down what the roots can do by themselves. They are more necessary for seedling into sprout , but once that usually happens I tear the cube apart and just use whatever roots that little guy with 2 little leaves have. Then I place it just deep enough in the Hydroton rocks to catch a spray from above the bubble popping. Raising the hydroton rock level as the plant grows. Shouldn't take more than 2 weeks for this. Which is why I would check out the sponge or just go for the Hydroton rocks with your setup".Nuff Said. To each his own.

Then just place some sort of "saucer" "ummm darker colored cardboard paper?, foil?, coco fiber (cheap), some old styrofoam chest you drank beer out of last picnic,etc... around the stem and top of grodan cube not to cut off circulation to the plant but just enough to cover any light leaks.

as for nutes and miracle grow

I think you can work with water solo until you get some $ to get a good bottle of nutes. All that thing needs right now is bubble popping water, light and some encouragement. However once those roots grow into the water which they will do FAST or already be touching; they will need BETTER nutes than the dreaded MG. I think Botanicare ProGrow smaller bottle is around 20$ at any local hydro shop otherwise its a scam. GL

Hrmmm Any way you can order some online? Amazon or Ebay? If not then I guess you can take your chances with MG. I assume you have no way of checking PH / EC? It will be a learning curve and you may lose that plant or two in the process w/out knowing all that stuff. Trial and Error is how I learned to grow bigger tomato's, but you need more plants to get through that process. You might be better off potting that plant in some soil and getting more acquainted with tools and "necessary" items DWC needs in order to work well.

Actually why not get a bag of tomato seeds and grow those in your dwc setup with what you have and see how it works? They grow pretty much the same way and you can calibrate your MG solution to what it looks like the plant will need. Keep a log and learn that shit! You can do it! GL

ok well im going to big city here in a bit and im gonna try and stop at a hydro store .. so wat kind of nute should i ask for .. im lookin for good nutes but not overly expensive . and keep in mind that im gonna be growing in a dwc system

fox farm nutes!
growing media could be glass marbles if it had to be! trust me, Im the king of ghetto growing! Any thing that wont decompose will work as dwc media. I personally use hydroton, because its easy and I got a shit load of it. Rockwool cubes used for a drip cloner? works great!
If you go with hydroton, rinse, rinse, rinse, rinse, and when you think you have rinsed enough.....rinse that shit some more! Dude if I can grow it, then you definately can! Check out my journal you'll see
