Getting the shell off?

In my dissertation for my masters, I covered how to mitigate this problem in the planting depth and seed orientation section.
Pretty much this. I’ve found you can place a seed in a rapid rooter pointy side down where the root pops out.
And at proper depth so that the seed doesn’t pop out of the rapid rooter too soon.

If you plant it too shallow you get what OP has, a helmet head that dries and hardens when it breaks surface and won’t come off.

Gotta day, guess I’ve gotten kind of lazy with the rapid rooters, they work 98% of the time. Next time around, I’ll push the seeds down a lil’ further, and give the seeds a squirt of water on top of it.

It's been a while since I had a helmet stuck which I attribute to my germ methods.
1. remove seed from frig hiding spot.
2. Plant in warmed/ moistened medium 1/2 inch deep...don't pay much attention to orientation although it may help.
3. wait
The helmet is dragged off by pushing through to the surface.
No soaking, paper towels, rapid stuff or fertility chants.
When ya do it as long as some have, you'll learn the simplest way works best.
My last germs were seeds that were 9 years old. No extra steps were taken....just plant and wait.

Soooooo I guess that means you're out on the gender reveal colored dust balloon pop?? It adds at least a pound.
