Getting the ball rolling....

Hi, I'm a complete newbie to the whole grow-scene but I'm looking for some advice on a decent starter kit with everything that I will need for a fruitful few months until my 1st harvest can go up in controlled smoke.

I'm looking to use a closet that measures 110cm(h) x 60cm(w) x 50cm(d) to grow some feminised White Widow seeds using the following pieces of kit and wondered if there is anything missing for a successful few months growing?

Greenfields Hydroponics UK - Grow Kit with 600w HPS Grow Light + LightSafe Relay
Greenfields Hydroponics UK - Micromark MM30132 / 6in Clip-On Fan
Greenfields Hydroponics UK - Micromark 24hr Digital Timer

Obviously I can follow other people's guidelines as to how to proceed with the growth process but I would appreciate it if someone could tell me whether I have identified a suitable starting point. Will these three items, along with the carefully selected seeds, give my set-up a good chance of survival and benefit me by way of a nice, buzzy harvest?

Thanks guys :joint:

Cool, thanks for pointing that out, it's good to know.
I wouldn't want to fry my special ladies before I got going!!

What would you suggest -
A bigger area to grow in?
A bigger fan?
A cooling system?

Thanks in advance

do you really need a 600W lamp

for that small size 400W is more than enough, plus you can put the 400W lamp closer to the plants than the 600W and get approx the same lumen amount

600W is for a bigger space IMO

also keep in mind HPS lights are hot, and you will need a good 30+cm away from the plant

if your grow space is 110 cm, when you remove the height of the pots, the height of the light+reflector and the distance between the light and the plants, this will give your plants a max height of not more than 60 cm, so you will have to limit your plants size - which will result in lower yield.

Also if the plants grow bigger they might get too close to the light and burn

so go for a bigger and most of all taller growing space - my homemade growbox is 140x60x70cm and I am putting a 400W bulb inside

That's good to know, thanks!!

My grow room is actually my airing cupboard so the potential growth in height could be as much as 200cm tall but I'd rather keep it to about 150cm to allow me to keep the top shelf in place for a cooling and ventilation system.

I'm only looking to mature 2 or 3 plants at any one time so I'm not sure if that will make aby difference to the grow room size.

Would the 400w bulb be suitable for all stages of the process? Will it provide both spectrums of light to give me a fighting chance of success in this venture?

Your comments are greatly appreciated. :joint:

yes, any 400W HPS will do the trick, for that space even lower, infact according to what some grow guides say, a 400W HPS will give you more than double what your space needs

there are some brands that offer additional blue and purple light for better veg also
