getting started.

I'm sure this is a recurring thread, so please bear with me. :dunce:

My buddy is offering to let me use (have) a 400w High Pressure Sodium light for a room I am in the process of planning the build of for a small cut of the proceeds. I've been reading through this sub forum and I see no mention of this type of light bulb. Is it the correct kind? If so what will it support?

Secondly, is there a good thread you could recommend for a general type of "must have" list to get yourself started?

Lastly, is Peer Guardian enough protection to block my IP address from this site? you know why

Please and thank you.

Your 400 HPS is perfect for the flowering stage of growth.

For vegetative growth you can use compact fluorescent lights - they are cheap to buy, cheap to run, and easy to find.

or you can get a metal halide conversion bulb that works in a hps ballast for vegging, if it was me i would tell friend u are going to wait to grow and go buy my own light
because never let anyone know u r growing best friends can change especially when they get busted and are desperate to save them selves
Never never tell anyone about your grow even your girlfriend. friends and woman are how most grows get busted
and why keep giving him a cut every grow for use of a lamp when u can sell a little meds and pay for your light off first grow

good point.
I will take your advice and just continue asking questions here until I'm comfortable that I know enough to move forward.
This is serious, and I don't really take it as such.

thanks

that is what most use but if u are going to buy your own light get a switchable mh/hps ballast and then u just change from mh to hps when ready to flower or if u r only going to do a few plants u can use cfl's all through grow and have lower temps

is that a preferred method or just something that *can* be used?
